Draft @ the Spezial Brewery in Bamberg. Poured very dark copper, almost black with a big thick head. Huge nose of smoked malts with a lot of fruit aromas. Flaver is powerful and the mouthfeel is rich.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to hazzlenut brown with a dense, creamy and orange to tan head. Mild leathery smoked initial aroma. Slight tarish following this. Mild and sweet caramel malt base with a light leathery smoked note on top. Smooth smoked from back of the nose too. Lasting mild smoked impression into the far finish.

Draft. A deep red beer with a collapsing light orange head. The aroma is sweet mlaty with light notes of smoke and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel, but also evident notes of smoke, which leaves the end a tad dry.

(On tap) Beautiful, clear orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and a whiff of smoke. Medium body with roasted malt and some burned caramel. Enticing but not exaggerated smoke flavour - just to rouse your palate. Very subdued bitterness. 081106

Dark chestnut brown. Malty with balanced smokeyness. I miss a bit depth, and I don’t find it very complex.

Bottle shared on the train from Nuremberg to Freising during day 3 of the Bamberg Jolly of January 2015. Pours clear honey-gold with a creamy white head. Good smoked malt aroma, some bread, light butterscotch. Medium sweet flavor with some sugary bread, more smoke, caramel. Light bodied with average carbonation. Moderately smokey on the finish with more bread, slight caramel notes. Nice one.
