I am unfamiliar with Spinnakers and this was the first of theirs that I tried. It has a pleasant look and aroma. An odd taste for a porter though, but perhaps it was the added flavors.

Very dark body, very modest head that’s gone in an instant. Aroma is of barley swampwater and chocolate from your garbage can. Maybe some boot leather in there, the kind that you dropped that can of paint thinner over a few years back. Flavour is a standard bad stout fare of wateriness with some coffee notes, a bit of chocolate, and just a hint of skunkiness to remind you that it’s a Spinnaker brew. This is another Spinnaker beer that seems to be oh so slightly infected and otherwise substandard in the world of craft beer. Maybe the stuff at their brewpub is better, but either way, I’m not impressed with this brewery.

pours cloudy ultra-dark brown with lots of sediment, small head, ringed retention, not much activity. Light roast coffee and malts on the nose. Attack: aggressive wtf 10/10 sourness, not much CO2 mouthfeel Mid-palate: malts, barnyard sourness, medium roast coffee, light chocolate Finish: coffee bitterness, rough sour finish. Strangly sour for a porter/stout... It could be that this is was just a bad bottle but after reading others’ having the same thought, most likely just a crap brew. Stay away - not enjoyable at all. Sour coffee/chocolate/malt??? wth..

gramity (1684) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 12, 2013
Bottle. Deep black with minimal head. Aroma of strong dark chocolate and chocolate malt. Taste is woody and dry with some sourness. There is a light thin chocolate character but not well pronounced. Bit of a weird brew. Had us questioning if there was something wrong with this bottle.

Bottle to flute Aroma of chocolate, malts, and alcohol. Dark brown, no head. Sweet and bitter, nice chocolate taste.

Ferris (17097) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 11, 2013
Bottle - Dark fruit, some roasted malts and some sourness. Muddy opaque brown with no head. A really odd porter, with the odd ingrediants giving in a light roasted flavor, some sourness and oak. Very light body and no bitterness and a bit flat. Could be a bad bottle.

WheatKing (1351) - Phnom Penh, CAMBODIA - MAY 2, 2013
Pours very dark brown. Aroma is heat, light roasted malt, chocolate. Taste is alcohol with some coffee and chocolate. Finish is alcohol, roast, chocolate, some balance of the sweet and bitter I guess. Thin. There’s a tag on this calling it a porter. The heat is too high for me to care what it is.

Dark, opaque brown and headless, I can smell it from across the room. It smells like malted joy, and tastes like milk chocolate surrounding 85% dark ecuadoran chocolate. Some beers of this style are a once a night thing but I’m glad I only have the one or I wouldn’t make it to work this week.

JHunter (772) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 10, 2013
