(Originally written for the Fall 2011 issue of TAPS Magazine.) At first blush, Spinnakers Discovery comes across as being quite simple and straightforward, with not-too-sweet toasted malt and deftly applied hops politely working together to create a pleasant and unassuming ale. Partway through the bomber, it becomes clear that there’s much to admire in that simplicity and straightforwardness – not to mention the 3.8% abv that makes it easy to down that bomber with minimal adverse effects. By the end, the words “quintessential session beer” might come to mind. Or they did for me, at least. blankboy (7735) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 9, 2011
Bottle [650ml] shared with garthicus c/o GregClow. Pours a slightly hazy copper-gold with an average size lasting fluffy white head. Very mild aroma of grain, light vegetal notes and very light hops -- pretty dull. Flavour of caramel malt, a bit vegetal, hops and some fruit. Average bitter finish. I know it’s a low abv beer but it’s quite dull and mediocre regardless.

Draught at the brewpub
Hazy light amber color. The aroma is mild, breadish. Some caramel and cereals flavor, the mouthfeel is rounder than similar beers at this ABV; respectable bitterness.
