Tasted on tap at Spinnakers Brewpub in Victoria. Slightly dry, smooth, not as thick as I’d like, but good.

This one’s pretty decent. Some roast and some dark chocolate. Pours black with great pillow of mocha head and great lacing. Light bitter finish. Touch of caramel. Nitro at brewpub.

En fût à la brasserie. Noir avec un petit col marron dense. L’arôme du malt torréfié avec un peu du chocolat. Très belle. Le goût est du malt torréfié avec un très peu du chocolat et houblon. Onctueux en bouche, presque crémeux.

brokensail (16432) - Dublin, California, USA - AUG 29, 2014
On tap @ Spinnakers. Black in color with a khaki head. Smells like roast and prunes. Licorice, some weird woody notes, and a bit of chlorine. Kind of dusty...some cocoa powder. Flavor is rather acidic. A lot of roasted malt and burnt nuts. Some dusty, bitter cocoa/chocolate. Sweet prune juice and licorice candies, too.

On tap @Spinnakers. Coal black with tan head. Roasted oats, coffee, cocoa, earthy hops. Lightly sweet. Medium/full-bodied and creamy. Simple, understated yet solid brew.

Handpump at the brewpub, 5.2% ABV
Dark brown color, almost black. Served with no carbonation and warmer that expected (also warmer than the promised 10°C), the feeling is very positive, with some chocolate and cardboard aroma, caramel and chocolate flavor (mild); there is a light sour vein too. Good.

paco (576) - Regina, Saskatchewan, CANADA - MAR 26, 2011
Tap at brew pub. Almost black with a thin cap. Lots of fresh malt and some coffee aroma. Some chocolate too. Taste is fairly dry with chocolate and light coffee. Some bready malts i think too. Really good.

harrisoni (18402) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - NOV 10, 2006
Cask handpull at Spinnaker’s, Victoria. Black with red edges. Lasting tan head. Liquorice tarry stout, some choc, little bit of smoke, smooth in mouth leads to a molasses dryness on end. Some smokey charcoal, nice, but again lacks a bit of depth. Nice enough

Black, nice tan head. Light espresso nose.Sweet roasty profile, bitterness from the roast in the finish

Handpump - sold as black stout. Very dark, nice brown lacing head. Light roast and chocolate aroma. Good chewyness, lightish body. Fine oaty, light burned toast and chocolate flavors. Chocolate lingers on in the aftertaste. Very nice easy drinkable stout.
