Jet black colour with thin beige head. Roasted malt nose with hints of coffee and chocolate. Mild roasted malt taste with slight chocolate hints.
Dark brown with a minimal head. Aroma is nice and chocolatey. The body was a little thin in flavour and lacking a punch but did have an enjoyable flavour. Nice bitter finish with no alcohol noticeable. Very easy to put back. WheatKing (1338) - Phnom Penh, CAMBODIA - JUN 21, 2012
(Pulled from a cask at the brewpub) Imperial stouts are meant to be robust, this was more of a very dark brown porter (albeit with a very mild hint of liquorice). Pretty good though, everything was well balanced. I wouldn’t want this to become a regular drink of mine, though. riversideAK (6260) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - FEB 5, 2012
Good amount of chocolate and sweetness on the nose. Some roast, nutty notes, earthy hops. Pours almost black with a tan head. The flavor starts with roast, moves through chocolate sweetness, earthy nutty notes, more roast, a little bitterness. Bitter/sweet finish. Moderate carbonation, maybe a little light in the body for the style. Twsobey (1) - - DEC 28, 2011 does not count
Opaque enough that it was difficult to see a candle through. The best beer I’ve had in Victoria so far. SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - OCT 22, 2011
Bottle. Pours a deep brown/black with small tan head. Aroma of dark roast, faint vegitable, hints of apple and chocolate. Flavor is much the same, fairly dry. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy body, watery, with medium carbonation. Overall, is just "OK".

On tap at the brewpub. We were a little divided on it--I liked it, but MB didn’t so much. A smooth beer with lots of roasted malt. An alcoholic finish. mcberko (17339) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 23, 2011
On tap at the Alibi Room, pours dark brown with a reddish hue and a small tan head. Aroma of sweetened liquid chocolate, maple syrup and caramel. Flavour is less inviting - roasted malt, coffee and sweet chocolate, but with an acidic and thin palate. Decent, but not one of the better examples of the style. pumpmaster (1393) - Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA - JUN 21, 2011
4 ounce sample at the brewpub Taproom at 4 samples for $5.00CAD. Very good

Bottle bought from brewpub in March 2011. Opened June 18 2011. This bottle was kept in cellar conditions along with the rest of my bottles. Pours black with a filmy head. Aromas of sweet something and some dark malts. Taste was sour like vomit. This bottle was either very old or part of a bad batch. The number above the barcode is 967612, maybe the batch code? The date punch on the side of the label is 01/5. Too bad. I wouldn’t rate this except it was purchases at the brewery and consumed within a reasonable amount of time. jonas (7549) - Garching b.
