Cask/gravity at Peterborough beer festival 2008. A big liquorice nose, with burnt sugar and pepper on the tongue - the burnt and sweet tastes somehow balancing each other very well. Then there’s a bitter and burnt finish with that touch of pepper coming through again. Lovely!

Cask at Derby Festival ’08. Dark brown with a small off white head. Pepper aroma seems somehow inappropriate. Fruity sour milk taste with ash and a bitter finish. Bottle that dad bought along this week having purchased from a bottle shop in Belper, 08-04-08 Pours black with a tan head, this has a lovely aroma with coffee and yes I got the pepper very interesting. Nice good solid roasted taste with pepper again, finishes dry but good and rather surprisingly hoppy. On gravity at the Bristol Beer Festival 14/3/08. Opaque jet black with a decent tan head. Aromas of licorice, tobacco, coffee and bitter chocolate. Big flavours of roast malt, spice and earthy hops. Cask at GBBF 2007. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet licoricy and malty, combined with a light note of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty and rather roasted, but also with notes of licorice, leaiding to a dry roasted finish.

Cask @ GBBF 2007, London. Dark black color with a average to large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy pepper, some malty, roasted, dark chocolate. Pitch black colour, not much head, just a slight brown ring on the borders. Aroma is spicy, roasted malts and slightly coffeeish. Flavour is loads of spices, caramel, chocolate and coffee. Also some slight roasted malts. Really pleasant one, long spicy and roasted aftertaste.

Spice and roast aromas. Black and slightly rich on the palate with some alcohol present. A little dryness in a peppery burnt roast finish.
