Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and dried fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee and light dried fruit with a smooth dry lingering bitter chocolate finish.

Smells like a chocolate brownie. Black with a ton of foamy tan head. 22oz bottle at home. Super cocoa and milky. Rich and coffee. Delicious

Cask sampling at the Chicago Beer Society’s 2016 DotLA, showing a black/brown hue, with a modest layer of brownish tan head foam. The nose was roasted, mocha notes, with espresso-like expression to the coffee side. Medium+ bodied, with cask expected, low carbonation, with some dark caramel & treacle sweetness, roasted & earthy bitterness, noticeable warmth, and a touch of dryness on the finish. One of my favorites of the show.

Bottle pour opaque black with thin mocha head. Nose roasted malt, dark fruit, currant or cranberry. More fruit than roast or chocolate. Taste is where the roast shows up. Starts with some of the fruit flavors then light to moderate bitter chocolate. Roasted malt mid palate through the finish.

22 oz. bottle picked up at Binny’s South Loop and shared with the group. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits and berries, caramel, some earthy notes, moderate bitterness, a hint of tobacco, smooth body, decent enough.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with a large fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark toasted malt aroma. Medium to heavy dark chocolate sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a good beer.

22oz bottle, thanks to alexsdad06 for sharing. Great big malt aroma up front. Dark fruit, dark chocolate, touch of coffee. Big full, chewy body. Reminds me of Death Valley Shootout. Good touch of earthy herbal hop, some tobacco, bit of berry. Very black color, just brown around the edges. Minimal light brown head. Leaves some bits of lace. Bigger bitter taste, moderate to bigger sweet too. Good long roasty dark fruity rich and robust aftertaste. Just a touch too sugary sweet, but otherwise, a pretty impressive imperial stout. Impressively big-bodied, good chewiness to it.

Thanks! to Benzai. Bomber sampled @ ZZT XIII. Black, small mocha head. Nose is weak mocha, syrup, basic thin chocolate, cheap, thin powdery. Taste is lightly bitter, cereal, mocha, toffee, a bit thin with cheap tasting powdery mocha. A bit thinner body. Not bad in general but weak for the style.

Black colour, beige head. Malty aroma, roasted malts and tobacco. Malty flavour, chocolate, coffee, roasted, light smoke. Finish roasted malts, caramel, ash, coffee and cacao.
(from 66cL bottle @ ZZT XII, ’Getting Joes’d to it’ Oirschot. Thanks for sharing, Benzai!)

Benzai (16681) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - OCT 24, 2015
Bottle @ ZZT XII. Opaque pitch black color, average to medium sized brown head that leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, dark and roasted malts, liquor, a hint of dark chocolate. Taste malts, dark chocolate, some roast, quite a lot of liquor, nice bitterness. Medium to full body, medium carbonation.
