Poured into pilsner glass. No freshness date on bottle. Pours a thick brown head. Surprisingly leaves little to no lace. Color is a deep bronze/brown, almost black. Aroma is full of honey and chocolate, mainly roaty malts. Taste is quite similar, very malty. Dark chocolate and earthy hops are present. First thing about the aftertaste is that the malts seem to be very burnt. Other than that, the mouthfeel is very creamy and leaves a dry aftertaste. Overall, a very tasty beer. Pretty easy to drink. I would have to recommend this one. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-09-2009 04:20:32

12 oz single bottle from Hy Vee Wine & Spirits - Muscatine. Brown/black appearance with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted grain, cocoa, coffee and a mild earthiness. Similar flavor, adding mild bitterness and a light malty sweetness. Light to medium body with a lingering dark malty finish. Nice Schwarz.

As the look and smell of a stout. Has the taste and texture of a lager. A best of both worlds blend. Reviewed on A Brew With You, Ep. 101

Backlog, bottle pours a blackish color with a medium tan head. Nose is bitter roast, coffee bean, caramel, and chocolate. Flavor was most of the same. Nice black lager.

From old tasting notes. Blackish brown, nearly opaque with a quickly disappating tan head. Aroma is slightly dry and vinous in nature. Semisweet roasted malt flavor upfront. Bitter hops in middle. Smooth dry finish has good hop character. Aftertaste is dry and somewhat bitter, yet long and interesting. Very lightly carbonated. Fairly well balanced and full bodied. Subtle and unique.

12oz bottle to tulip. Pours black, solid beige head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, molasses, coffee, dark fruit, oak, bourbon, dark candi syrup. Taste of same. Excellent roastiness. Great complex flavor, while quite quaffable.

Sort of has a musty sweet smell, it’s hard to describe. Strong dark roast coffee bean flavor, medium bitterness, bit more carb than most dark beers. Pretty damn good overall, quite unique.

Can from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Dark brown in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. A pleasant black lager, with rich chocolate and toasty malts, some brown sugar and plenty of leafy hops, before a lingering, bitter, finish. Easy drinking for the ABV and enjoyable.
