Had a couple of these sitting on the shelf for a few years. We opened one last year and it was bad so I didn't have high hopes for this bottle. Wow was I wrong.
Chocolate malt and caramel aroma. Maybe some fruit. Taste is dark malt, coffee and some caramel. Medium palate with light carbonation. Very good beer. Barrel aged doppelbocks are uncommon. They did a good job on this.
More beer please...

July 18, 2012 on tap at Sugar Maple. Dark pour with limited head. Aroma was roasted malt, dark fruit and bourbon. Taste was consistent with a nice amount of bourbon in the finish. Liter bottle. Thanks to Dave for sharing. Pours very dark with a thick tan head. Aroma is more mild than I expected: roasted malt, some dark fruit and licorice. Flavor is roasted malt, dried cherry and raisin, definitely some vanilla and bourbon. Not as big as I expected, but still very good. Very dark brown with no head. Nose holds big toffee, caramel, barrely vanilla; quite sweet. Flavor holds that classic doppelbock light fruit presence plus more vanilla, marzipan, and whiskey. Slick, medium bodied on the mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Aroma is heavy caramel and nutty malt, light peppery alcohols, dark fruits, and light oxidation. Flavor is oxidized caramel malt, peppery alcohol, moderate sweetness with dark fruits. Sampled at the DC gathering at GT’s place. Clear dark brown pour. Big malt bomb,but in a good way. The bourbon comes through a little on the flavor. A little woody. A little oxidized, but good.
