Pours a pitch black color with a thick foamy head that last a long time. Scents of coffee, caramel, cocoa, and bourbon fume from my glass. The taste is hard to describe as it is thick, creamy, and smooth. Quite robust and yet the flavors go quite well together. Some spices and burnt sugar are also obvious. Certainly a well made, tasty beer but the value is really lacking. for half the price you can get a beer that taste just as good as this one. Bought in Oct. ’11, drank, Oct. ’12. Opaque with a slow fading coffee pillow head. Nose is spiced rum raisins, and vanilla with some molasses. Big molasses flavor along with soy, burnt malts, and wood. Thin palate. This has all the right elements, but something keeps it from being great. Bottle thanks to hophead22. Pours with a near black body with a small tan head. Aromas are very strongly diacetyl. Little else. Butterscotch. A bit of vanilla. Flavors are a mess. UPDATED: JUN 2, 2016 Picked up at the Sprecher outlet. A miss for this brewery. Strong wood and bourbon aroma, but they were somehow off. Some root beer and cola in the aroma and flavor and stale smoke. However very smooth. Serving: Bottle

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 Tap at the Sprecher tour/reserve tasting. Jet black pour with a small tan head. Awesome aroma of oak and bourbon. Palate is a little thin for this style. Taste is bourbon, wood, and some roasty bitterness. Aroma definitely trumps the flavor on this one. A: The beer pours almost black in color with a finger of tan head.
S: When the first thing you smell is butter, you’re rarely in for anything good. Lots of butter, a bit of roast and bourbon, a touch of vanilla, and some sourness. Not sure whether that’s vinegar or just too much booze.
T: The flavor is much the same. Heavy on the butter with a more pronounced sourness and even more booze. Light bourbon and vanilla flavors with lots of roast and oak, some coffee is also there.
M: Medium bodied with very low carbonation.

650ml brow twist-off gold waxed bottle. 2009 vintage. The label proclaims "Lager". Talk about the most bizarre packaging, Sprecher might want to fire whoever is doing this.
It pours a dense black with a foamy tan head. The head recedes rather quickly and leaves some mild lacing.
The smell is thick with bourbon, super thick with it. It is big and sweet with notes of caramel and vanilla and underneath that chocolatey, roasty stout.
The flavor is big and bourbonny. It is roasty and alcoholic. It has a tanginess to it that is hard to pinpoint, like very sweet raisins, perhaps an infection.
It was great until I tasted it, I am pretty sure something sneaked its way into he barrels.

UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 1L swingtop bottle brought to the Big Black Beer Bash by dbsdelight- thanks again, Dan! He brought some big guns to the event. This one looks like a typical nice imperial stout on the pour- deep, dark brown, mostly opaque, with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, oak, bourbon, and roasted malts. The barrel notes really dominate the nose. The flavor is all over the place: butterscotch, vanilla, metallic notes, plums, berries, roasted malts, bourbon, oak, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with a bizarre mouthfeel that could be described as buttery, sweet, and metallic all at the same time. I think I wound up liking this a lot more than most other people there; Dan even made a face like he just drank sour milk or something. The execution and palate are messy but I still found this pretty interesting and really liked the aroma. Re-Rate: Not as good as the first time I tried it. Too fruity. But not bad overall.
