Bottle. Blackish beer with a small tan head. Coffee, bourbon, chocolate, oak aroma. Chocolate, bourbon, brown sugar, oak flavors that aren’t as complex as I’d like to see, though still good. Medium body and would like to see a bit fuller. LIngering bourbon, coffee, molasses with a bit of citrus malt. Courtesy of Degarth. Pours a dark dark – opaque darkness with nice light brown head. The aroma is big with roasty malts to burnt malts that get swallowed by a pile of oak chips. I do get a hint of the bourbon too. The taste starts dry and roasty with hints of bourbon. Beyond that a sweetness kicks in along with a healthy dose of wood. bought this in asheville if my memory isn’t to far gone from all the glue i sniff .. . very black .. bourbon, tar, oil, and sweet burnt g.i joes .. . the mouth is a but of a let down, especially with the boozy feel .. . still good though .. . . A car with a car rack looked like a police car, so I slowed down, only to realize I had been tricked into obeying the law FOR NO REASON.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick and black with a small foamy brown head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was bitter with floral hops, roasty malts, wood, whiskey and cocoa. The flavor was bitter, roasty and woody with cola, cocoa, whiskey and an overwhelmingly boozy presence that was too sharp to really enjoy. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Disappointing. Bottle in a trade. Dat in my cellar about 18 months. Black in color, thin head. Aroma is moderate bourbon, vanilla, and coconut hints, mild roasted grain.

Mild roasted malted grain backbone. Bourbon is has a light warming sensation after the swallow. Alcohol is hidden. Body fuller with a creamy/ lower carbonation. I am surprised at the lower ratings, must be batch (vintage) variations because what is in my glass is pretty nice.
Bottle thanks to hophead22. Pours with a near black body with a small tan head. Aromas are very strongly diacetyl. Little else. Butterscotch. A bit of vanilla. Flavors are a mess. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a large diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt, a bit of bourbon, vanilla and wood. Bottle at the RBSG grand tasting on 6/23/07: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin tan ring of head. Aroma of sweet sugary caramel with some earthy esters and a touch of butterscotchy bourbon. Body starts fairly full and sugary caramel sweet with some earthy dark caramel and chocolate malt before an oaky, fairly viscous bittersweet finish. An interesting brew, but needs more full malty flavor and not sugary adjuncts.
