This hearty red-brown ale has a slight smokey aroma of sweet caramel and lightly toasted malt. The flavor is malty, yet very smooth, with a delicate hop finish and a creamy head. Recommended Serving Temperature: 50°F

Fruity esters of smokiness. Apple like flavors with lots of smokiness. Nose carrries all these parts as well. Lots of body. Overall this doesn't work together. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours a brownish copper with a beige head. Head was initially fizzy. Aroma is quite malty with some sweet caramel notes.. Taste is plastic, malt, light smoke, and alcohol with a strong medicinal quality. Drain pour.

Aroma: heavy malt and sickly sweet; Appearance: dark ruby red with fizzy white head that dissipates quickly; Taste: overwhelming malty with a bizarre note of band-aids; Palate: heavy body with long, plastic finish; Overall: very disappointing.

Quite surprised that the ratings are so low. This beer stands with Robert the Bruce, Dirty Bastard and Bellhavens Wee Heavy. It’s terrific! I will guess that this is the base for Commando. Thanks to Jerry in Minnesota for making my afternoon just a Wee bit better.

Draft at Sprechers. Pours brown with no head. Nose is caramel, toffee and a strange bandaid aroma. Taste has some smoky flavor. Overall not that good.

A pretty solid scotch ale. Creamy, rich, with a sweet malty backbone. Tried with Brandon in 2015.

wedgie9 (2703) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 8, 2015
Tasted on 1/31/12 from a bottle. Pours clear amber with an average khaki head that leaves thin lace. The nose is lightly smokey caramel malt with toasted nuts and a hint of bitterness. The flavor is lightly smokey caramel, toffee, and maple, with some bread and light bitterness. The body is medium plus with lively carbonation and a long smoked toffee finish.

500 ml bottle. The pour is a muddy brown with a small ring of head that vanishes quickly. The aroma is very malty. There is a strong toffee presence and there isn't a whole lot going on there. Strong dark fruits all throughout. I love the aroma. The flavor mimics this. There is the sweetness and the dark fruits. The mouth feel is thicker and syrupy and with a light carbonation gives it a little velvety feel. The aftertaste is lingeringly malty and smooth. This is a very good scotch ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
