Wonderfully complex roasted malt flavor though aroma is a bit thin. Bite is noticably absent with robust start and gentle finish. Pleasent aftertaste leaves the mouth feeling full.

Pretty thick, slight tobacco, a little nutty. Good stuff. ---Rated via BeerBuddy for iPhone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A pretty standard Russian Imperial Stout. Very rich, lots of chocolate with hints of coffee at the end. Tried with Brandon in 2015.

Sprecher has been hit or miss with me, so when I was given a 4-pack of their Russian Imperial Stout, I was a little leary. I am happy to say my fears were unfounded. This is a fine example of a RIS that I’d be happy to have again. Pouring the beer into my trusty Samuel Adams glass, I am greeted by the ebony body with a thick head for dark tan foam, which diminished quickly, and left light lacing throughout the session. The aroma is what I’d expect from the style, rich with chocolate, raisin, and coffee notes, with a touch of alcohol. Though a little light on mouthfeel, this stout does deliver a fair balance of sweet and sour, finishing with a good, lingering coffee flavor.

Pours a thick, inky dark brown bordering on black with a super dark reddish brown yet tiny fizzy head that disappeared lickety split. Smells of dark fruits, bitter dark chocolate, hazelnuts, and toffee. Like a dark chocolate heath bar. Taste starts off sweet with the dark fruitiness. Even catching some slight tangy/sour notes. Coffee, chocolate bitterness apparent after the fruity sweetness hits. Roasted flavor is noticeable between sips, after letting other flavors dissipate. More carbonation than I’d expect or want from a stout. Soft, but with a light body. A decent beer, but would I buy another? Meh.

12 ounce bottle. Opaque black with a rocky tan head. Rich roasted malt nose. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Sweet roasted malt flavor has bittersweet cocoa notes. A touch of licorice and resiny hops add depth in the mid taste. I pick up some smoke and currants as well. Finish is bitter and more smokiness.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours near black with some dark brown/reddish hues. Large, creamy tan head has good retention - leaves a good amount of sticky lacing on the glass. Sweet and lightly spicy aroma with a base of dark roasted malts . Taste is unusually sweet. The hops that lend a spiciness to the aroma fail to do enough to counter the sweetness until the finish, although the sweetness does linger into the finish. Seems to lack a solid dark malt base until near the finish. A bit of tartness to it. Mouthfeel is smooth, but with some tongue tingle; Ner full body. Medium-light carbonation that seems appropriate. A little too sweet for style from the start to mid-taste. Lacks balance,

Bottle. Chocolate, smoky prune/dark fruits, caramel, and light coffee aroma. Black brown with a small dark tan head. Roasty coffee, chocolate, light licorice, sweet dark fruit flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. Solid, but not incredibly complex.

12oz. bottle. Aroma of dried fruit, dark, roasty malt, semi-sweet chocolate, raisin and cherry, some background sweetness present here as well. Utterly black in color with a very slight, fading head. Flavor profile is full of dark chocolate, prune and malt roast, with lighter notes of toffee and vanilla, mild-moderate hop bitterness, and a coffeeish finish. Smooth and gently warming on the palate with low effervescence and a full body. Interesting and tasty.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours an inky blank, with a medium off-white head which quickly fades, leaving fair lacing. Nose is burnt malt and coffee. Taste is coffee and dark malt, with a mild hop finish which nicely cuts the sweetness. Well made.
