3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Source: 16 oz bottle from local retailer.
Aroma: The overall odor isn’t particularly strong. When you get a bit closer you can smell a bit of sweetness and roasted malts.
Appearance: Deep reddish brown color, unclouded, and topped off with a finger’s width of moderately dense tan head.
Taste: Roasted malts and a bit of caramel are apparent when it first hits your mouth, but not overly powerful. The flavor is rounded out with a very mild spice and bit of fruity sweetness which seem to come through more prominently in the aftertaste.
Palate: Smooth on the palate with relatively thin body to it.
Overall: Rather pleasant to drink. I was expecting, given the name, something a bit spicier or sweeter. Turned out to be a fairly solid Dunkler Bock.
Pours a deep dark brown with a tan foamy head. Aroma has hints of roast. Taste is slightly bitter and a little watery. No distinctive flavors jump out. A bit of a miss... FlacoAlto (4228) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JAN 6, 2018
The beer pours with a frothy light brown tinged tan head that is nice and creamy textured. The beer is a concentrated Brown Hue that shows a deep red slash vibrant Brown Hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a nice multi nutty note to it, there is perhaps a hint of buttery diacetyl, and there is a lot of rich dark malt character here.Cousin_Larry (895) - - JAN 16, 2016
Taste is very malty, with a bit of buttery character to it that suggests of maybe a hint of diacetyl. Very nutty, lots of toasted malt, but also has a chewy dark malt sweetness to it. Body is nice and chewy for a beer of this strength and is just about perfect for the beer. There is just a hint of spicy hot character to the finish, that adds a bit of complexity to the beer.
This is very nicely done. It could perhaps use a touch more adult dark malt character to balance out the sweetness.
Pours a light black with a white head. Flavor is nutty with strong alcohol taste and nutty aftertaste. This one was oxidized a tad and I had to mark it down a couple notches since it’s not particularly old. markas101 (2529) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - DEC 20, 2015
Tap, restaurant, Wisconsin Dells. Raisin and clove aroma. Sweet, root beer flavour. More raisin prune. Cola like finish. mrjaxson (630) - .08 Junction, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 17, 2015
About as average a beer as I’ve had lately. Just faint nuttiness to the aroma, light body and hints of sweetness on finish. Poured from a tap at the Sprecher restaurant in Lake Geneva, WI.

473ml twist-off. Purs a darker amber wiht a thick forhty off-white head. Smell is roasted grains, herbs, and salted pork. Oooh a savory dish! It is poorly bodied but has a nice flavor of dark bread, savory, spices, caramel, rye, herbal cutting bitterness. Certainly not up to par wth the best of the style but nto bad. beerbaaron (1997) - Arizona, USA - JUL 24, 2013
Dark ruby brown with small off-white lasting head. Aroma is quite powerful but smooth; sweet, malty, caramel, toffee, bread, touch of dark fruit. Flavor not nearly as powerful, but still very tasty. Smooth, balanced, and very drinkable. Body is smaller than I expected. Very nice toasty bready finish. Better with every sip.
