Bottle. Pours a dark brune body with a mostly white head. Smoked malt, peat, campfire, salty bacon a smokey dominated malt aroma. Flavor is similar smoked ham, bacon, rauch with a mild warming and char. A nice smoked ale. beastiefan2k (4076) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - MAY 29, 2010
UPDATED: NOV 18, 2015 Nice hookup from hopdog. 750mL bottle. Pours with a dark brown color and a small head. Aroma is not just smoked but as nice chard character. I like the mix of smoke and char. Flavor has more smoke and a cedar character. Its light and not boozy. Good smoke beer.sloth (2930) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - OCT 11, 2009
Re-rate: wow, when the heck did I have this beer originally. Well, I am at the brewpub right now in Lancaster. The beer seems to have changed a lot. Its a really tasty porter but I get no smoke, such a small percentage of the malt bill. I’ll leave the original rating b/c I am too lazy to think of new numbers.
Sampled @ the brewery and from growler. Nice medium sized tan head, retention is very good as is the lacing. An almost black brew though ruby highlights do show through. Nose is meaty, smokey with some faint malts coming through. Body is medium, lightly oily, slick sorta chewy. Plenty of smokiness for yous smoke lovers backed by some nice roast notes, light woodiness and some faint chocolate notes as well. Did,nt even realize its runnin 8.5% ABV, wouldnt know it.Dry, roasty smokey finish. Might age well and lay down some of the smokey flavors that i,m not really a fan of. I think Smoked fans would enjoy this brew. Better than expected. phillybeer7779 (101) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 26, 2010
On tap at TJ’s in Wayne, PA. First time I’ve tried it, and it was exactly what I hoped for as a fan of rauchbiers! Great smoked taste and smell accompanied by the body and roasted qualities of a porter Indra (2711) - Suburbia, Kansas, USA - FEB 23, 2010
750ml bottle. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, smoke, raisin, prune, wood, roast and faint dark breadiness. Dark brown-black color, head is fine and uneven. Flavor follows the aroma closely, very lightly sweet, very smoky, roasty and coffeeish with suggestions of cocoa, more dark, dried fruits and light bitterness appearing late. Smoothly but generously carbonated palate, rather dry, with some faint warmth on the finish. Body is medium-full. Very nice. Thanks to beastiefan2k!

Bottle from Smith’s. Pours dark brownish black w 1f tan head and great lacing. Nose is huge smoked dark malt, cacao. Tastes rauchy, with dark malt, and some dry coffee and hop notes. Medium palate heft, decent complexity, and a solid smoked malt bill. Very good. Arayaga2 (2254) - portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 22, 2011
Almost black with a thin off white head. Aroma and taste are thick bacony smoke. Kudos for going bold, but it’s anything but subtle, with not so much malt behind it. $15/44 oz pitcher. jehoey (765) - Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 12, 2008
On tap at Lancaster beer fest: aroma was strongly smokey with notes of bacon and bologna. flavor was rich and malty with loads of smoke character. body was quite lean for a porter, the biggest flaw in the beer, but I really enjoyed the flavor. hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 11, 2009
On tap at the KSBF ’09. Poured a dark brown (almost black) color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of smoke, some smoke meatiness, and roasty. Tastes of the same smokiness, roast, and had a light bitter finish. Not overly smoky. Body on the thinner side. theisti (4179) - Kansas, USA - FEB 5, 2010
750 ml bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is brown ruby, mostly clear with a smallish off white head that falls fast. Aroma is pure and full smoked peat, big and charred. Really not much else, eventually some roasted malt pokes through. One dimensional. Taste is more of the same, just pure charred smoke and peat. Light touch of the roast malt. Palate is medium, mouth coating (and sinus engulfing) and just the residual char. Wow, smoke bomb, one dimensional but still a fun one. Thanks Eugene.
