UPDATED: NOV 24, 2005 GABF 05. By far the best beer I had a GABF. Pours a lush dark black with a lasting olive-colored head. Aroma is nice blend of chocolate and caramel. Flavor is just as it smells, but even better with notes of coffee prominent throughout. Palate is thick and coating. Damn good stuff; I MUST get more of this someday. sethdude (706) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 27, 2005
Pours a deep black with a huge amount of sediment in the bottom of the glass. Great head and lacing. Aroma is a wonderful coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is very dry coffee amd burnt chocolate, some lactose, mild tobacco, great bitterness. Nice dry finish. What a suprise this was. A very rich beer. lunchtime (10) - Springfield, Missouri, USA - NOV 8, 2012
It’s quite possible to forget you are drinking a beer sometimes with this brew. An excellent night-cap or Christmas morning beer! BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - OCT 15, 2005
GABF 2005: Opaque with a outstanding creamy head and lace. The aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate and burnt malts, earthy esters and an interesting grape twang. The taste is bittersweet mocha , coffee, and smoke with a fruity background. A nice bitter hop finish evens out the sweetness. The mouthfeel was a tad weak considering the flavor. A nice surprising beer and an above average stout indeed. hopscotch (11101) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 18, 2009
Draft… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, wispy, beige head. Good retention. Espresso beans and cocoa nibs waft up from the glass. Medium to full-bodied with zesty carbonation. The flavor is mostly of finely ground deep-roast coffee... burnt, bitter, ashy and acrid. Crisp, charred, bitter finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a thick light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, maple, and espresso. Flavor retains the coffee notes quite well, also with sweet and roasted malt. Great coffee presence! Yum!

black pour tall tan well alced head. Big coffee and roasted malt aroma w/ some dry hop. Full palate light and creamy. Big coffee and sweet malt flavor some roasted malts too. Good coffee stout. Cable (286) - SE, Oklahoma, USA - SEP 19, 2005
Sampled on draft at the brewery in Springfield, MO. Pours opaque blackened-brown with adequate head and lace. Aroma is dominated by fresh-brewed coffee and some earthy notes. Flavor is coffee, tobacco and cocoa. Full bodied and well-carbonated. A good stout, but not as sophisticated as SBC’s other brews... or perhaps I am imparting my expectations gleaned from sampling SBC’s 7 year itch, which is an incredible stout. Fruit and coffee aromas. White head. Black hoppy and strong in alcohol with a crisp and bitter coffee roast finish. JoeinDahlem (1521) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUN 13, 2007
On tap @ brewpub in Springfield. Black beer with big, creamy head. Sharp aroma of bourbon, chocolate, espresso. Big coffee flavor, where bitter espresso meets bitter hops. Mouthfeel is a bit thin with lively carbonation for a stout. Coffee also strong in the bitter, roasted-malty finish. This one’ll wake you up.
