Bottle @ ZZT VI thx to countbeer. Orange to red colour with a lacing white head. Smells malts, hops, fresh, sweet, herbs. Tastes sweet, hops, fruity, herbs. Quite nice! Medium to full body, great carbo. johnnnniee (4411) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 3, 2012
Pours a deep burnished copper color with a smallish beige head that slowly recedes but never dissipates. Smells of brown sugar, caramel, a bit of dark pitted fruit, some earthy hops and a bit of an alcohol presence. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side with lots of dark sugar and caramel malt. A light bit of cherry and plum fruitiness mixed with an earthy hop flavor and a touch of ethanol. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet sugary syrupy mouthfeel. Not to shabby of a barleywine. This is the second time I’ve had this and I’m glad I did because I remember not caring for it the first time. Maybe a batch or bottle variation? thornecb (6055) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 7, 2012
Pours deep amber into a tulip. White head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet toffee aromas. Medium bodies with caramel and toffee front to back. Lasting bitter earth finish. mcox90 (2130) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 8, 2012
22 oz bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a reddish brown, mahogany color with a thin tan cap. Typical barlywine scents, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, dark fruits as well a bit of booze. Taste is dominated by the malty sweetness with brown sugar notes. Some bittering hops balance it out. Full, warming palate. I still have not met a Barlywine I didn’t like and this was no exception. Bomber: Pours a clear orange with a thin white head, aroma has alcohol and brown sugar, starts lightly bitter and ends lightly sweet with a molasses ending, mellow carbonation, sticky mouthfeel.
