Draft pint at the brewpub. Dark amber, soda-like head. Tight little aroma, the flavor isn’t what I expected -- almost fruity, with an almost raspberry character. Very, very smooth and drinkable. Lightly caramelled in the finish, but this is a delicious medium-colored beer even for the summer. (#3022, 7/15/2007) jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - NOV 22, 2014
Draft at the brewery during RBSG. From notes. Toffee and Roasty notes along with hints of smoke. Very good. hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 26, 2014
Draft… RBSG 2014… This beer rocks!… Pours mostly clear and ruby with a small, creamy, off-white head that sticks around a good while. The bouquet is a wonderfully malty assortment of toffee, caramel and oak with a suggestion of smoked malt and a rumor of butterscotch. Medium to full-bodied with stinging carbonation. The flavor is loaded with toffee and caramel sweetness, but countered by a equal ration of woody and tannic bitterness. Malty and delicious, but balanced, so anyone can drink it. Finishes pleasantly bitter and tongue-numbing. Fun, world class stuff! Brigadier (3725) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAY 28, 2010

Made from locally sourced materials I knew that this had to be in my sampler. With more time I would have tried not only the tap beers but some of the local spirits. If this is an indicator they are pretty good for something produced outside of Scotland. I wish Cleveland had a micro-distillery.
Aroma / Appearance - Semitransparent and the color of flaking rust or a water spigot which hasn’t been turned on in ten years this has a murky and mysterious aspect. Hints of carbonation escaped from time to time. In addition to the kick of the single malt I picked up vanilla, cherries, blackberries, and still moist cakes of mud. The creaminess smelled a bit like a piece of plain cheesecake.
Flavor / Palate - Peat and scotch got the party started right. Next came cherry, maple syrup, and vanilla. Without being cloying the mouthfeel requires your full attention. Warm with a trace of bitterness this might get a bit heavy after more than six ounces. That would not stop me from drinking it again.
Draft during RBSG 2014 bus tour at Square One. Clear amber with off-white head. Aromas of sweet fruit, caramel, dark fruit. Tastes of sweet and dark fruit, figs. Medium body and dry, low carbonation.

Draught at Square One brewpub. Dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel and caramelized sugar. Malty taste of caramel, toffee, sweet malts with a light hop finish to balance it out. Smooth, tasty, solid effort. gregwilsonstl (2613) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 26, 2012

Sample #4 from the brew pub. Tasted 10/14. Deep amber hue. Minimal head. Sweet, sweet malty goodness. Toffee and candy sugar. All malts! Finish is slightly cloying. Medium bodied with a slight little alcohol burn. Warming and delicious. Favorite of the day! ContemplateBeer (2089) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - APR 13, 2010
Wow. Underrated-Aroma of dark liquor, caramel and vanilla. Appearance was nearly opaque red with dark tan head. Flavor matches nose with some spiced apple. Palate is bubbly. Enjoyed. On Cask. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - OCT 23, 2010
Sampled at GABF on 9/18/2010. This Scotch Ale pours a medium amber brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet, bready and smoky. A medium bodied Scotch Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice carbonation. Nice Scotch Ale, hints of peat and smoke, with not a lot of sweetness. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
