i don’t normally hand out a "5" but this brew is all-deserving of it!! oh that delicious whiskey flavor followed by that creamy chocolate flavor and oh so aromatic!! thick-n-chewy; just how I like it! This brew is Outer Darkness with a kick of "BAM"!! Hearty, robust, and rich. This was the first brew wherein I held the bottle upside down until the very last drop slowly fell!!! Truly exquisite! gordonrivers1 (21) - USA - FEB 10, 2012
This is a very delicious beer. I like the chocolate notes, I am not familiar with rye but I am guessing thats what I taste. I love big barrel aged beers and the amazing chocolate notes. I am happy to have tried this beer. Thanks Bill. eugenecat (13) - Nebraska, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Ridiculously fine beer. Had this (over and over (thanks, Adam!)) at Extreme Beerfest, a large annual festival in Omaha. With hundreds of great beers all over the festival, this is one of two that my friends and I kept coming back to and agreed to be best of the fest.
It pours very much like an espresso, with blackness in the body and a rich layer of tan cream on top. Beautiful. The aroma is nice but subdued; while the whiskey notes are present it gives only a hint of the flavor to come. And then the first sip. Wow. I had to sip again immediately because I couldn’t believe it was actually that good. Oh but it was. The mouthfeel on this beer is a rare treat: so creamy, so velvety, so lush. Amazing. Flavor-wise it’s all you look for in a good Russian Imperial, just done better than pretty much every other competitor. You’ll be glad you tried this. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Bottle from superdave! Black pour, chocolate brown head. Cocoa, rye, char, ash, asphalt aroma. Flavor is rye spicy, barrel aging done right, light oak, vanillia, chocolate, some bitter espresso. Yeah its freaking great. reggiedunlop (3718) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 21, 2012
Pours pitch black with ruby hues...medium creamy dark mocha head. Aroma has coconut, vanilla, light coconut and roastiness...faint dark fruit. Flaovr has nice bold roastiness and subtle dark fruit, very light whiskey, oaky whiskey vanilla creeping in. Mouthfeel is creamy and the finish warms with roasty oak. Wow.

Bottle from the generous Scott - thanks! Black pour with a dark, expresso tan head. Aroma is dry whiskey, clean roasted malt, light bitter chocolate and coffee, and some lurking darker fruit notes but very clean. Taste is whiskey up front followed by chocolate, roast, a slight bite of alcohol, some darker raisin notes, and lingering whiskey. Mouthfeel creamy and airy. Exceptionally well made and impressive. Glad to have enjoyed this one! hopdog (12341) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 15, 2012
750ml bottle. Black pour with a brown head. Aromas of roast, wood, coffee, earth, licorice, sine vanilla, and some dark fruits. Tastes of chocolate, roast, vanilla, whiskey, dark fruits, and coffee. Some alcohol in the finish but overall nicely hidden. russj117 (5) - Utah, USA - DEC 22, 2011 does not count
750ml bottle from the brewery, enjoyed at home. pours deep, opaque black with a thin toffee-colored head. aroma is very much like the outer darkness - chocolate malt, a hint of coffee, a bit of black licorice. taste is complex - bitter chocolate on the front, classic imperial stout flavor, mild but meaty hops in the body, and a dry whiskey finish. this finishes a bit drier and spicier than the OD, and i like it a bit better. a great improvement on an already great recipe. 750 ml bottle courtesy of Dakine. Thanks. Pours a dense black color with a small brown head that soon diminishes to a fine film. The aroma is strong with sweet&spicy whiskey, rasins, dates, chocolate and dark roasted malts. The flavor, like the nose, features; dark fruits, coffee, vanilla, chocolate and a well balanced dose of whiskey. The palate is thick and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes long, dry and slightly hot. Overall: The last thing we need on this planet is another Barrel aged RIS, but here it is, and its good. Compares favorably to Dark Lord. The only defect being its just a bit hot around the edges, this could use a cooling off period in a cellar. Very nice sipper on a cold January day. Errl (2442) - Plano, Texas, USA - APR 21, 2012
