This rich, Northwest-style Pale Ale is a rare feat of balance: unfiltered, dry-hopped to 40 IBUs, and deliciously sessionable. Groove on this two-time Great American Beer Festival® Gold Medal winner (2001 and 2002 Bitter Category). It really smoothes out the bumps.

Sample pour at squatters in salt lake city. Frothy head deep orange hue. Robust malt and piney aroma. Comes off a little wateryier than I’d hoped. I get a little vanilla, little bitter, little wheaty.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2017 Tap in Springdale UT 2/17/15. Light amber pour, nice head. Grainy with mellow hop character. Perfectly drinkable but nowhere near a standout.

Bottled revisit 2/19/17. Pretty much as above. A bit malt forward for the style.

Can. It’s an unclear, golden-orange beer with a finger-thick off-white head. The aroma has hop pellets, pine cones, orange zest and some hints of pale wort. Piney and lightly orange peel-ish flavor with malt notes and a decent bitterness. Medium to full-bodied, dry and nicely carbonated. Lasting finish. A bit too much on the hop pellet side this one, but nice anyway. Impressive body for a beer this weak. Quenching. 140613

Appearance: barely any head at all so I can't judge the color of the head, the beer is a nice orange color with a slight haze to it Aroma: strong flowers, light grass, the flowers are stronger than any I've smelled before Taste: bitterness up front, some lightly toasted malt grain in the middle followed by a strong bitter finish Palate: light mouthfeel, average carbonation, bitter aftertaste Overall: very good pale ale, the abv means it's highly sessionable, wouldn't mind drinking a few of these ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear amber color with ivory head. Floral, tropical fruit, citrusy aromas. Medium bodied. Tangy sweet citrus, tropical fruit flavors with a light pale malt base brew---not bad.
