It has the same problems as a lot of maple flavoured ales, it tastes too artificial. I had a hard time finishing it. I would use it to cook but that is about it. One, if not the worst beer of st-ambroise.

Had the beer as part of the Saveur Bière easter set. The looks of the beer are nice. The color of the beer is a nice dark amber. The beer is crystal clear. On top of the beer there is a nice layer of slightly offwhite foam. The majority of the foam collapses, leaving a thin drape. Not bad. The smell is a big surprise for me. I didn’t quite new what to expect from a maple beer, but this exceeds my wildest expectations. The smell is truly that of maple syrup. Not something that looks like it, but just the real deal. This gives the beer a lovely sweet and slightly nutty smell. Besides this lovely warming sugar syrup inferno there is a nice malty base, giving both ordinary malt aroma’s and more bisquity aroma’s, which blend together with the maple perfectly. There is also a nice hoppy bitter touch to the beer. Lovely to see all the individual ingredients and aromas come together in a perfect aromatic blend. Better than expected. The taste is the same. It is filled with sweet and slightly nutty maple syrup flavours at first, followed by nice malts and finished with a slight herbal hoppy bitterness. The beer is mainly sweet, but the bitter hops bring the taste in balance. Lovely, and unique. I’ve never had anything like this. Wow. Especially the combination with the chocolate provided by Neuhaus is perfect. The more bitter dark flavours of the chocolate match perfectly with the lighter and sweet maple flavours. Lovely. The palate is not that great, unfortunately. Not bad, but could be a lot better. The body is very light and the texture thin and watery. The carbonation is nice and strong. The watery texture is a pity, because it is a bit weak compared to the strong smell and taste. If this was improved, the beer would be even better. But it already is amazing as is.

Bottle from saveure-biere. Pours light brown. Nose is heavy maple, not much more. Palate is really overpowered by the sweet maple syrup, just some bitterness with citrus. It’s really strange, especially if you aren’t a Maple syrup fan. Probably would not finish a bottle, but a glass is nice with some cookies or other sugary snacks.

Clear deep amber color with a tiny light tan head. Sweet syrupy aroma with some malty dryness and more maple syrup sweetness. The flavor is dry malt, sweet maple syrup and some cardboard.

Pours a thick huge frothy head that sticks around for a bit. Leaves some pretty dirty lacing. Has a coppery appearance with red hues. Aromas are mainly maple, it’s at the forefront for sure as well as some hints of caramel and pine scents. Flavours are strongly maple influenced, obviously. Finds a pretty good balance between their crystal malts and hops. Notes of barley in the mix as well as sweets and some spices, but fairly faint. Also just a bit of toffee, but just barely. Has a prickly bitter mouthfeel and becomes sweeter in the finish. Great tasting and well balanced.
