COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Crockett (1139) - Southampton, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 10, 2018
2013 Bottle Opened January 2018. Cellared in Tube. Constant Temp 17C. Pours thick jet black with a big blooming dark brown creamy head. Some residual fingers, bubbles, and some sticky lace. It's completely perfect to look at. Nose of alcohol, chocolate, coffee, molasses, sharpy, paint, vanilla, wood, mushrooms, leather, earth. It's just about perfect as well. Mouthfeel is big, full, silky smooth and supple. Hops are hiding in there, somewhere carrying a bit of cedar/pine needle and evening out the beer with some mild, yet grounding acidity. There is a trace of grit, but it's pleasant in the way of lightly pressed coffee, or a non filtered hot chocolate. Cocoa Nibs and Espresso. Lots of very soft carbonation lifting the bittersweet cocoa/coffee/earth above some chewy tobacco, leather, mushroom (umami, soy), wood, in front of a little milk chocolate, cherry, and very faint citrus. Burnt sugar and beef bouillon through the finish. Absolutely stunning.

Always loved this brewery's beer. Another great one brewed. Not sweet and not overly bitter. Really well balanced. Alcohol is well hidden. Amazing finish and after taste, bit of espresso and chocolate. Bourbon gives it strength, but its very mild taste from it, which is nice since i am not bourbon drinker. Medium to heavy body, low carbontation which suites style.

Solid beer, got it from Broue Ha Ha, looking for few extra beers that I had not tried in the few breweries that I know so far. Fantastic!

Bottled. Completely black, like oil. Thick brown head. The aroma has cocoa with hops. The taste is like oil, with syrup and nuts. Strong chocolate finish.

Pours a deep brown-black with a dark tan head. Super chocolatey, slightly smoked with some vanilla notes. Roasty, chocolatey, smoked, some dry tannin notes, and light boozy vanilla Bourbon character. Notes: bottle from Montreal visit, Dec '16, opened Sep '17.

Brasserie McAuslan - St-Amroise Stout Impériale Russe Bourbon Wood Aged
Alkohol: 9,2% obj.
Chmiele: Cascade, Goldings, Willamette
Data butelkowania : 12.2016
Wyraźnie czuć dębinę i lekkie nutki wanilii. Nad całością powiewa spora paloność, sporo czekolady i ciemne słody. Po chwili dołącza do zespołu zapach karmelu, kawy i odrobina toffi.
Smak: W smaku od początku do końca gładkie i kremowe. Profil smakowy buduje duża porcja ciemnych słodów, intensywne palone nuty, gorzka czekolada i aromatyczne espresso. Profil beczkowy bardziej przygaszony, niż pokazywał to aromat. Dobrze zamaskowany alkohol i półpełne ciało.
Wysycenie: Niskie.
Podsumowanie:
St-Amroise Stout Impériale Russe to piwo wywodzące się z Montrealu w prowincji Quebec. Uwarzone zostało przez browar Brasserie McAuslan. Świetny Russian Imperial Stout. Bardziej w klimacie wytrawnym, niż słodkim, ale z doskonałą równowagą poszczególnych składowych. Nuty drewna, płatków drzewnych, dębiny z lekkim bourbonowym tłem. Delikatna wanilia, gorzka czekolada, kawa espresso i dymiony charakter tworzą piwo niezapomniane. Dostojnego chatakteru dodaje trunkowi smolista czerń i ciemna, brązowa piana.

Pours a very small brownish head and doesn’t stay long. Has an extremely dark appearance, pitch black pretty much. Alcohol scent is pretty noticeable at first, then aromas of dark chocolates, coffee and mild goldings and cascade like hops comes through. Very nice. Flavours are fairly bitter with resin and spiced hops, some dark roasted malts, chocolate, coffee. Wood aged in bourbon, it comes through fairly abundantly. Also notes of nuts and toast. Slick and oily mouthfeel. Warming tingling sensation. Lively carbonation. Pretty darn good. Aged it for about a year and enjoyed it July 17th/’13. Very good indeed.

Frudel (253) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 2, 2017

toffsbury (121) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 21, 2017
2016 bottle, opened April 2017. Deep rich black with thin, swirling brown head. Aroma is full of bourbon, booze, smoky wood and fruits, with some molasses and other delicious things. Palate is thick and full like an imperial stout should be. Taste of vanilla and rich dark malts, but somewhat overwhelmed by burnt malt character. I suspect this will go away with age, as this is a fairly young bottle and an extremely age-worthy beer. Aroma: 9. Appearance: 5. Taste: 7. Palate: 5. Overall: 17. Total: 4.3. 2013 bottle: same look as the young bottle, but the aroma - such aroma! Booziness is toned down, while the scent of Madagascar vanilla blooms along with a tiny hint of plum. Taste: the burnt taste has toned down, but there’s a strong metallic tinge that emerges. This calms down with warmth. Hop bitterness is present but not overdone. Very nice. Aroma: 10. Appearance: 5. Taste: 8. Palate: 5. Overall: 18. Total: 4.6.

Bierdimpfe (640) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 28, 2017
2015 Edition, a year old bottle : Opaque black color, very dense. Creamy and foamy brown 3 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes. Strong lacing, thick legs, a swirl slightly reconstructs the head. Flavors of wood, leather, oysters, dark malts, raisins, plums, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toffee, herbal spices. Thick rich fruity sweetness, while heavily bitter, spicy, and earthy. Creamy and milky medium body with soft prickly carbonation. Highly strong dry finish, deeply earthy, thick herbal and chalky espresso feel on the tongue, fruity esters and burnt malt sugars, lots of dark chocolate and vanilla at the end, hints of liquorice and peppercorn, with a nice bourbon barrel aged feel that lingers a for while. Not very fresh, but not alcoholic, yet incredibly warming and filling. Good intensity, not excessive, still enjoyable. Complex flavors, very tasty and incredibly rich, all well balanced and easily distinguishable. The perfect winter beer after a cold day outside. Feels like a cross between a barley wine, sweet stout, and wee heavy. Overall superb quality craft.
