In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%. In 2009 this went to 9.8%, and in 2011 it went to 10%.

All vintages of this barley wine (1999, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011) are to be rated on this page.

A hazy orange beer with a disappearing orange head. The aroma is sweet and quite hoppy. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy with a slight alcohol burn. Nice for a barley wine to by so hopped. Thanks, Per, for sharing.
Vintage 2000 - Sampled 2006 - it definately is over the top [4/3/5/3/10=2.5]
An amber beer with a fast disappearing orange head. The aroma is extremely oxidixed, but also has notes of oranges. The flavor is sweet and again very oxidixed but not as bad as in the aroma, but also has notes of fruit

Bottled (2000 vintage, 10.2 %, thanks Bov!). Hazy brown colour, small beige head. Aroma is plummy, alcoholic, toffeeish, wineous and spicy. Barnyard, berries and plum in flavour along with leathey and alcoholy hints. A bit glueish and redwineish. Pleasant thing overall.

2007 bottle at Beerbistro in Toronto, consumed on 6 Dec 2009. Chestnut brown with a medium tan head and very fine lacing. Plethora of aromas here, including licorice, peppermint, caramel and honey. Flavors of honey, raisins and cinnamon, nicely complex, with a dry finish. Outstanding body. Delicious, complex and interesting. Would like to store it for a couple of years more.

2007 Vintage. Very hazy brown beer, good ivory head. Dry palate. Even malt, trace of dried fruits and a whisper of brandy. Dry finish. Okay but somewhat one dimensional.
