Bad Habit is an Abbey style Triple (original batch: 8.5% ABV). Inspired by the classic Belgian Triple epitomised by the brothers at Abdij der Trappisten van Westmalle near Antwerp, it is paler and stronger than a dubbel. Brewed with Pilsner malt, malted wheat, malted oats and light sugar, it is hopped with US Citra and Slovenian Dana, and spiced with coriander, dried orange peel and Grains of Paradise. Like Cardinal Syn it has been matured for three months and bottled by hand. The beer pours burnished gold, with a complex and enticing aroma of Easter spices and bitter orange marmalade and a dry finish. The beer should be enjoyed in moderation served elegantly in a chalice or large wine glass, and would make the perfect accompaniment to a creamy, mature soft cheese.

A new batch was released at 8.2% ABV.

Draught at The Queen’s Arms, Brixham, Devon. Gold with white head. There is a definite Belgian yeasty note from the start, fresh pear drop notes, estery, becoming quite fruity. Good depth of flavour, some alcohol warmth. Very decent.

Had to wait a bit after bringing this 33cl bottle of the new 8.2% brew in from the beer-shed, it’s sub-zero out there. Pours a headless but somewhat gassy amber-brown with a light haze. Honey, pear and banana esters, and herbs on the nose. Boozy and dry-sweet, with fruity caramel and a peppery bitterness. Hints of toasted orange and ginger. Lovely.

33 cl bottle from the brewery brought by a friend. 8.2% - a new batch. A remarkably good take on a Belgian Abbey-style that is more triple that any other style. Sampled alongside a Rulles Triple it held up, which is pretty damn’good. Soft, sweet, strong, spicy-yeasted. A bit too hazy but that may have been a transport issue.

75cl bottle at the Shrewsbury Beer Share Group meeting on 7th March 2016, cheers Mat for this offering. Re-brewed, now at 8.2% ABV (dated as bottled in Dec 2015). Slight haze to the pour, amber with a wispy white head. The aroma was yeasty, with an orange and coriander twist, the taste similar with a spicy yet semi-sweet feel to the flavour.

75cl bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, March 16, courtesy of myself. New batch, 8.2%, bottled Dec 15. Pours hazy amber, white head. Aroma brings good yeasty tripel esters. Taste is similarly yeasty, nicely balanced with a smooth sweetness. Not a bad effort.
