COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Our most famous and notorious ale. HSD is a full-bodied strong Cornish ale brimming with a kaleidoscope of flavours. Brewed with plenty of malt and lashings of English Fuggles and Golding hops, HSD is truly a classic ale of considerable depth and complexity.

Draught at the Harbour Inn, Padstow. Aroma: bread, wood. Appearance: clear mahogany, 5 mm. foam. Palate: medium-bodied and thick, soft carbonation, long bitter finish. Taste: medium-bitter, very complex finish with licorice. Known as ’High Spark Diesel’ around St Austell, mother’s milk to me. Great beer.

Finn (7516) - Tromsø, NORWAY - DEC 13, 2016
Fra cask på Lord High Admiral, Plymouth 23 Sep 16. Mørk amber. Lavt tett skum med litt farge. God plommearoma. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken balansert. Subtile smaksnyanser. Litt mandler & litt frukt. Blir tørr etter hvert.

Probably a very genuine bitter with faint toffee and a more pronounced bitterness. Thin and not very interesting

Half pint, cask ale at Lord High Admiral. Thanks to Finn for the treat. A clear copper coloured beer. Crocheted lacing from a diminishing beige head. Plain caramel aroma. Nuts and caramel to the taste buds backed by a touch of raisin. Smooth bittersweet tail. Medium bodied. Pleasant (Plymouth 23.09.2016).

Cask at The Cornish Arms, Hayle. Poured clear amber/gold white head. Nose is malt, caramel and toffee, taste is much the same, easy drinking beer.

Cask at gbbf day 5. Mostly clear golden amber coloured pour with a loose off white head. Aroma is caramel and toffee, mineral. Berry. And English hop. Flavour is composed of sweet toffee. Caramel and light apple. Palate is sweet, sugary, lowish carbonation. Not great.

Cask at the Dolphin in Penzance. Some hint of caramel, quite malty, enjoyably full-bodied beer.

Towey1989 (2719) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 25, 2015
Cask at The Wig & Pen, Truro (St Austell) A clear amber colour with a creamy off white head that lasted. Aroma of caramel, some fruity malt and subtle bread. Taste of red berries, some plum, subtle black cherry, caramel and woody, earthy hops. Light bodied and a smooth texture. A dry, earthy bitterness in the finish. A decent example for its style, malty and fruity to begin with a dry and earthy to end. Not exciting though.

Pint fron the Temoest, Coleby. Amber colour off white head. malt and caramel aroma but the taste was more global hops. Nice.
