Controversial? A contradiction in terms? Certainly a subject for discussion; is there such a thing as a black India Pale Ale? Whichever way you look at it, this beer is designed to challenge the sences. Black as stout, close your eyes and taste and this beer is classic IPA. Powerful hops dominate the restrained chocolate and coffee notes from the carefully selected roasted malt. Whatever you thought you knew about beer, weve just changed that!

On tap at Kick. A black one, topped by a dense, light tan head leaving lacings. The aroma is faintly buttery, with caramel, dark chocolate and some lightly citrusy hops. Roasted flavor with chocolate and coffee. A pleasant bitterness chimes in, bringing some balance. Full body, soft and pleasant carbonation, rather dry. Lasting roasted finish. A proper beer indeed, although a bit buttery especially in the aroma. 130520

Bottle conditioned. Jet black, fluffy and persistent beige head and gentle condition. Oily hop resins, bitter coffee, sweet chocolate and a little liquorice in the nose. Full bodied in the mouth, starts off a little bitter and tinny with hops to the fore but with a sweet chocolate note timidly appearing bolstered by a little coffee essence, roasted barley and some faint fruity berries. Finish has a lingering metallic retronasal hop resin note and a little bitter coffee and roasted barley towards the end.

Proper Black is a schizophrenic IPA stout lookalike. It's very dark damson look with a one finger beige head that fairly quickly dissipated. On the nose notes of burnt caramel, rich darks fruits and hints of espresso. Like a stout it has a smooth mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Upfront is the fruit, caramel and coffee which quickly gives way to a hoppy bitter citrus which lingers nicely. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. High fluffy lasting off-white head. Very dark brown body, not completely black. Mild coffee caramel aroma. Roasted malt coffee caramel fruity flavor with a good deal of hops bitterness, low carbonation, long sweet finish.

Barwa ciemna. Piana niska szybko opadajaca. W aromacie slod I nuty czekoladwe I karmelowe. W smaku bardzo gorzko ale tez I wysokie nasycenie ktore przeszkadza. Warte sprobowania I tylko tle.

Pours black (obviously). Aroma of roast and pine. Taste is very quite full bodied and very roasty for a black IPA. Some figgy flavours (??), Pine hops and some tropical hop aftertaste which i assume comes from the Citra hops. Alot more stout character than i expected, but still drinkable. Not bad!

Бутылка. Аромат хорошии, в меру жжёнки и хмеля. Тело пустова& вкус тоже, но для массмар& очень даже хорошо.

500ml bottle. Due date 08 2017

Aroma: a lot of pine and coffee, strong forest and resin scents, roasted character

Looks: black with thick light brown head

Taste: dry, there is literally no sweetness in this beer. Coffee and roasted malts, espresso like bitterness

Feel:mid carbonation, medium body

Overall:A very nice blackish IPA

Smells like a proper IPA with loads of hops but with a small amount of coffee. Tastes is pretty much hops and more hops with slight notes of choclate
