750mL corked bottle. Vintage 2011 Bottle #500
Inadvertently forked out almost $50 for this bottle - mark it down as a Birthday present to myself
Pours a hazy bronze body. Big beige head foams up, but doesn’t stick around.
Aroma dominated by malt characters of toffee, toasted nuts, with aged characters of tawny port, toasty yeast autolysis and dried fruit come through.
Effervescent carbonation without having too much bite, cutting through a rich body
Palate starts sweet, good amount of slightly burnt toffee and biscuity malt, light bit of toasted oak, continuing on with dried apricot and raisin, finishing with sublte yeasty notes of stonebaked bread, earthy spice and vinous red fruits. A touch of bitterness on a prolonged warming finish.
Not sure if it’s the age, but this beer seems to promise a bit more than it gives. Sure, it’s very nice, but I was expecting much more.
