COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic Quadrupel style of Belgiums best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. Its a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Hazy brown color. Aroma = sweet caramel with some citrus notes. Taste = notably sweet with robust carbonation (suspect bottle-conditioned). Heavier than average mouthfeel. A great introduction to Abbey Ale - Quadrupels. Highly rated as you can see :-)

Medium karbonering.

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark copper with limited white foam. Aroma is caramel and fruits under spirits. Spices as well. Body is medium-thick, with quote some carbonation and stickiness. Taste has strong sweetness and only very limited bitterness. Finish is sweet but not too persistent.

Pours a deep mahogany colour with a thin off white head. The aroma is sweet, caramel like with a hint of spice. The taste is caramel, raisins, plums, cherries, yeast spiciness with a solid malt backbone and an oaky quality. My overall impression of the taste is slightly sweet but well balanced, with hints of bitterness and no indication of the 10%abv. Its a smooth, light to medium bodied beer with high carbonation. Delicious, complex, but not overwhelming like similar Belgians.

Bottle. Dark brown with fizzy off white head. Aroma: sweet, banana, dark dried fruits, hints of apricot. Complex taste. Bread and bread malty bread. And I like the balance between sweet and bitter in the end. Very fine beer.

Aroma: Medium dark fruit, plums, raisins. Medium-light toffee, marshmallow. Light alcoholic, rose. Light molasses Appearance: Clear, dark copper body. Small, light-brown head. Low retention. Flavour: Medium-light licorice, bready. Medium bitterness. As it warms up, it becomes a soy like flavour, with some banana notes in the background. Dry finish with lingering alcoholic heat and licorice. Mouthfeel: Light warming.Medium-light body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: The beer starts off very one-sided, but it grows in depth as it warms up. However, the beer does not quite meet the richness of the best of styles. 330 ml bottle, poured. 26D. Belgian Dark Strong Ale
