4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Color dark brown with medium white head. Aroma caramel, fruits, roasted, alcohol. Taste fruits, caramel, alcohol.
Terecht het broertje van WestVleteren 12 genoemd.
Een van de beste bruine Belgische bieren. Mooi gebalanceerd. dreamer (209) - PORTUGAL - SEP 15, 2017
UPDATED: SEP 15, 2017 25cl on tap, at BeerCascais. Reddish dark brown color with medium beige head. Medium and soft carbonation. Full bodied and creamy texture. Aroma is very complex with plums, chocolate, yeast, vanilla, spices, hops and dried fruits. Taste is also complex but very balanced, is low to medium sweet but also has some bitterness, also tastes chocolate, dried plums, pepper, cloves and many other flavours that I’m not capable do distinguish. Aftertaste is sweet and very long. Is indeed very similar to Westveleteren 12, but less sweet, little more bitter and not so full bodied, although we can notice very well they share the same roots. stanislav_kh (4) - Kharkov, UKRAINE - SEP 13, 2017 does not count
NFL Piepenhenrich (587) - Steinbach, GERMANY - SEP 8, 2017
Very good dark Belgian Ale, rich and complex in taste. Quite strong, yet not too alcoholic in taste. A very enjoyable brew! Lilarcor (1) - Valby, DENMARK - SEP 8, 2017 does not count
very close to westvleteren 12 indeed. a superbly heavy and complex belgian brown ale that will definitely get you there. Try to drink it in the same pose as the monk on the label is taking (right index finger pointing up and left hand drinking), the experience will be even better.

Backlog, Bottle shared with Pat in June of 2010 but I've had this 10 or more times in my life. Pours a reddish brown color with medium head. Notes of plum, light banana, apple, belgian yeast, toffee, grapes, and figs. Medium to fuller body. Awesome sipper. FinnIckler (756) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 4, 2017
Bottle from maruhn (?), this is one of the first bottles I bought a year ago. Nose is citrus, orange, candis sugar, plums, caramel. Palate mixes sweet plum, fruity citrus, and bitter chocolate. I was at a 4.0 at the first few sips, but it is crazy how many flavours it is able to pack in at once. Bittersweet finish. Truly amazing. beermastersasho (87) - - SEP 4, 2017
Good beer, but not the best Quad at all. For me it is boozy, trappist beers are much more balanced and light. Aroma is same to Rochefort 10 and Westy 12. But it is much more boozy. Spicies, and reminds me a little bit of Schneider Aventinus tap 6.

a solid belgian brown, has the foundational characteristics of belgian beers - strong, malty, boozy - but finishes dry and slightly hoppy in comparison to some others (i.e westmalle). the label and design is too funny. street drink that bad boy. JaKeAFC (1247) - ITALY - AUG 27, 2017
This is tough. On tap at botteltje oostend. Brown color, hazed, thick creamy beige head, quite persistent?. Aroma of caramel, liquorice, scotch, old furniture, yeast, starch and boiled wine, some fruit spirit, tobacco/cigar. Taste powerul, sweet, alcoholic as old spirit. Very woody with solvent and varnish. Earthy and warming finish. Very heavy, full body, soft carbonation, sticky finish with fuel notes.
Not exactly up toy expectation, but a serious and classsic brew which deserves following.
