Served on tap at Brick Store Pub in Decatur. Pours a dark red-brown that is rather murky. A thick tan head that remains for much of the time. Aroma of bubblegum (Juicy Fruit, actually), esters, and honey. Flavor is amazingly sweet throughout, with a banana bread and spice character. Mouthfeel is a bit watery but lively. In sum, a wonderful Christmastime ale that should be on anyone’s list who is looking for a holiday beer. Gets an extremely high recommendation.

Year after year, St. Barnardus Christmas Ale is named one of, if not the best, Christmas Ale in the world. I like the beer but not my first choice. I prefer Corsendonk to this Belgian Christmastime beer.

Nice twist on the Bernardus formula. More spicy. Some bay leaf and eucalyptus. Bold beer.

Bottle. Dark brown a bit reddish color with belge head. Aroma has dark fruits, caramel, dark bread, dried fruits and malt. Taste is malty sweet with nice long somewhat bitter aftertaste. Flavors of raisins, dates, caramel, dark malt, spices and some alcohol warmth. Not too sweet and very well balanced.

Corked bottle, 0.75l, shared with Muc. Aroma of berries, yeast, spices and alcohol. Pour clear ruby brown color with thin creamy pinkish white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet malty and fruity, following is mild yeasty and spicy with candy sugar notes, mouthfeel is warming, although alcohol is well hidden, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, thick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Pre-Christmas surprise...

Bottle from Beers of Europe, Bury St Edmunds (online order). Dark brown, almost opaque. Lots of visible carbonation, and a film of beige head. Plum pudding, crème brûlée, chocolate-covered cherries and yeast in the aroma. Sweet spicy taste with candy sugar yeast to the fore. Hoppy bitterness gives colour to the short finish. More chocolate, Christmas pudding and plum brandy on the finish. Brilliant.

330 ml bottle,bb 12/07/2021.
Ebony.
Nose - all sorts of Christmas fruit cake ingredients plus marzipan and alcohol waft.
Taste follows the nose but is a little bit muted.
Tingling carbonation is spot on.
