Extra 4 is a classic Belgian Single style, light golden in color, full of flavor and character and brewed with more hops and bitterness in comparison to the other well known St Bernardus abbey ales. Extra 4 will be brewed with high fermentation and bottled conditioned with an ABV of 4.8%. Extra 4 will be a unique, tasty and refreshing spring and summer quencher with a lower alcohol content than such other popular St Bernardus products as Abt 12, Tripel and Prior 8.

Aroma is apples, spices and Belgian yeast. The flavor is apples, grainy malts, light Belgian yeast and a slightly sweet/tart finish.

Pours with a good amount of foam. Color is nice light golden and theres plenty of carbonation. Aroma is that of light pilsner with yeast, "sharp" hoppiness, sweet malts and a little bit of tropical fruit. Palate has very good carbonation similar to sparkling water and is not oily, but well balanced between oiliness and dryness. Very pleasant. Taste has mild hoppiness, little bit of bitterness that adds a "kick" (but not too much). The body is sweet and rich, but not too overwhelming. Very delicious, but still refreshing. Cannot pick particular tastes other than hops, so this tastes a lot like lager, but the balance of taste (esp. bitterness) is amazing. This is like a lighter version of Pilsner Urquell. This is an excellent beer and becomes a personal favorite in this style.

December 2016 - Bottle share at One Canada Square. Thanks Fergus! As St. Bernardus Extra 4. Pale yellow, still, translucent with a thick dense foamy head, leaving light lacing. Aroma is light and airy, papery, stones. Not much going on. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is wheat, sawdust, paper, slightly dry and salty into the finish. Nothing to dislike really but also doesnt have me singing from the rooftops. (3.1)

Hazed golden yellow color with a fine white head. Lots of bubbles, but not as high carbonation level as feared. Medium body. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Nice mellow flavor. Fruity, mild citric and mild yeast in the profile. Quite session able beer. Refreshing and fine.

Ar: Yeasty and lightly tart; perfume, peach, and orange, along with some candied notes, and peppery, rosy hops. Ap: Light gold and clear; small white head with poor retention, leaves a thin ring of foam and some thin patches of bubbles. T: Cereal and peach; oranges and a bit of chalk; bitterness is low, with a perfume and herbal hop character; more peach on the finish with a fresh cracker malt note that lingers. P: Light body with high carbonation; finish is very dry. O: This beer is really delicious, and it is far too easy to drink; there are a lot of fresh, fruity flavors here, and quite a bit of complexity, though the overall impression is subtle and well-integrated, quite quenching, too.

"A 16 04 16" a best by date...maybe? First of two 11.2floz bottles bought discounted for $1/each in the St. Louis area. Consumed 01.20.2016. Appearance is of a golden haze and a soft bubbly head in a tulip glass. Cantaloupe and unwashed hair fills the nose in a good way. If this beer is old, then I wouldnt know it from how it tastes and goes down. Possesses a nice light body and mouth filling of cereal grain and floral flavors.I likey.

Bouteille. Cest trs bien, lger, goteux, rafrachissant.

Level 42 Bottleshare and no Mark King in sight. Thanks to Fergus. One of those beers where you think how have I not had this! Light haze on this paleish gold beer, tidy pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and mildly dry with decent fine carbonation. Softish malts with light dry floralness. Mild spice. Touch of citrus, lemony. Softish floral fruits and a whisper of sherbet. Light finish. Tasty enough.
