COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a traditional Abbey Ale brewed in the classic "Dubbel" style of Belgium’s Best Abbey Ales. It has a ruby to purple color, smooth, creamy richness of texture that is almost oily, and a malt-fruit complexity reminiscent of coconut. It finds the perfect balance between sweet, bitter and malty tastes. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

330ml brown bottle. Red brown colour, 1 inch of creamy, rocky tan head. Malt, brown sugar and nuts in aroma. Big malt flavour and malt sweetness, subtle caramel and light alcohol. Some yeast and alcohol carry over into the finish, giving it a bit of a pleasant bite, and some dryness. Soft palate, medium carbonation, some stickiness and weight to the body. A nice rich, slow sipping experience overall, even though the bottle foamed like crazy upon opening!

Maltiness in the aroma as well as a certain fruitiness, maybe prune, and a hint of yeast. Taste has that malt again, a light sweetness and some bitterness. I get that coco-nut taste that's mentioned in the beer's official description, it's there too. It's a very dark brown beer with a nice lasting head . A gentle lasting caramel, bitter and a bit yeasty finish. Definately enjoyable!!

Bottle - reddy brown with thick creamy light tan head. Decent aroma, ok palate. Slightly sweet tasting, overall ok, but not exceptional.

Couleur brune, mousse effervescente.
