St. Feuillen’s centuries old brewing traditions combine with Green Flash Brewing Company’s cutting edge brewing techniques to form our first collaborative brew: Bière De L’Amitié (Friendship Brew). A blond Belgian collaboration ale, brewed with St. Feuillen’s traditional yeast and spices. For a modern twist, we add rye malt, wheat malt, and American Amarillo hops. At the crossroads of collaboration, we dry-hopped the brew for more zest. It’s old-world Belgian Abbey-style meets new-world American craft brewing - and a friendship is formed.

Location: 750 ml bottle from Central Market, 10/21/13

Aroma: The nose is fairly yeasty, lots of spice and funk, some light citrus zest
Appearance: Pours a bright, clear golden color with a thick, frothy white head and heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is heavy spicy/yeasty, as the nose would indicate, the funk it more subtle, but it is still present, there’s some citrus flavors, and it finishes with a not large, but noticeable hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, with a fizzy carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a really nice one. The mix of spice, funk, citrus zest, and hops works very nicely to make an interesting and tasty offering. I enjoyed this one more than I did the Friendship Brew Black Saison. Tasty.

Aroma: Bread, light fruit
Appearance: Light hay with a slight white head
Taste: Citrusy, light fruit
Palate: Light mouthfeel, good carbonation
Overall: Good complex, yet subtle flavors. Very enjoyable and comes across as a really good, slightly light belgian.

a bright, tangy, almost wheat like belgian golden ale. somewhat spicy with a better hop backbone than most. pretty neat.

Bottle, says 06/06/14. Thin, big bubbly white head, dissipates quickly. Vibrant, cloudy dark orange body, yellow hue. Minty, spicy malt, bubblegum, strawberry candy fruitiness. Hint of paint volatiles. A lot going on. Minty up front, spicy from malts more than yeast, not-so-smooth rye taste. Big warming booze feel at the back without booze taste. Numbs the mouth with lingering notes of pink bubblegum, slightly dry/powdery. Lively carbonation. Hops mute at this point. Solid Tripel with tons of complexity. Flavors are so soft which is confusing with the numbing alcohol affect.

August 2010: St. Feuillien/Green Flash Bière De L’Amitié ... Aroma: Lightly peppery with some lemon, a slight staleness; nutty. Appearance: Pale golden color; large, foamy, off-white head. Flavor: Fruity maltiness with hints of spice and wintergreen/mint; high alcohol is evident. Palate: Medium body; soft, smooth texture. Overall: Nothing special.

3/16/2011: St. Feuillien and Green Flash Brewing Co. Bier De L’Amitie Collaboration Ale (Brewed with Spices)... Aroma: Citrus peel, fruity, floral, lightly sour/vinegar; rubbing alcohol. Appearance: Cloudy, opaque marigold yellow color; dense, frothy off-white head that lasts; fast carbonation. Flavor: Yeasty and spicy; fruity sweetness; starts like a Wheat Ale/Hefe, the has a dry middle and becomes very much like a Tripel; the citrusy Amarillo hops come through with a mild, well-balanced bitterness; sharp, alcohol and white pepper finish. Palate: Medium-bodied; well-carbonationed; slightly sticky on the lips. Overall: Really nice brew; complex and quite enjoyable.

Shared with some none beer folk who really enjoyed it. Pours cloudy yellow with nice lasting white head. Nose is spice and fruity ester, banana. More spicy, banana, clove, esters through the glass with a medium body. For the abv it was moderately refreshing with medium dry finish. Not too shabby here.

Sample at the Aficionado’s "Hidden Gems" beer tasting on 05/24/2013: Pours a hazy orange-gold color with a medium thick foamy white head that recedes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, grainy malt and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of sweet spices, bready malt, yeast and hops. The finish is nutmeg and yeast with a citrus aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
