This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2007 God belgisk rdbrun klar ale, som har en god balance med den belgiske gr. Duften er dog som en classic med noter af karamel. Alcohollen er dog (for) meget tydelig.

(Bottle, Monks Caf, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with huge, frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of dark fruit, prunes, dried figs, raisins, chocolate and dark rye bread. Malty, slightly burnt taste with dark/dried fruit, prunes and chocolate fudge. Slightly vinous finish with warming alcohol sweetness and spicy hops. Very solid and reliable abbey dubbel. A school book example. Very nice.

The color is brown with very little head. It has a rich caramel aroma. The taste is sweet toffee and spicies, with just a bit of bitterness, no aftertaste.I had this beer at LAutre Oeil.

75 cl. bottle from the supermarket. Poured a dark and cloudy reddish brown with an almond colored head. Aroma dominated by an oaky/alcohol sherry character, with molasses, dark coffee and chocolate notes. Sweet malty (molasses, coffee) and some earthy flavors, with an underlying alcohol warmth. Im surprised here by what I perceived as strong alcohol notes considering that the ABV is listed at only 7.5%. Kind of a thin mouthfeel, especially on the first pour, which leads to a disappointing finish given the predominantly malty flavors. Overly sweet maltiness without any real complexity to make it interesting.

PorterPounder (7764) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 18, 2007
Tallahassee, Fl - Market Square Liquors - 11.2 oz bottle - part of a 3-pak which includes a nice glass. Dark brown pour, silky khaki-colored head. Toffee, chocolate in the aroma. Some raisins, baked brown bread, toffee and chocolate all swirled around together nicely in the flavor. Only gets better as it warms. Thickish, creamy mouthfeel. Satisfying - very solid Belgian.
