12oz. bottle. Sweet, toasty, bready dark malt aroma, notes of nutty toffee and cocoa in the nose along with some light earthiness and a slight fruity hop character. Attractive deep mahogany color, clear, with a lasting, fine, light tan head. Flavor profile features the expected caramel sweetness and dark bready maltiness, but is backed by a solid undercurrent of citric hop flavor and spicy bitterness, finishing with suggestions of licorice and hazelnut. Fairly smooth on the palate with a medium body. Very nicely flavorful take on the style. Thanks to Kinz for all these St. George brews! vmilaxer29 (412) - Virginia, USA - DEC 30, 2007
A fairly decent brown ale with a sweet aroma and strong flavor. Smooth with a sweet, choclolate aftertaste; an enjoyable beer. Cletus (6355) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 19, 2008
Bottle courtesy of dkachur. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of sweet caramel, dark fruit. Tastes of pepper, spice, some sweet malt. maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 4, 2005
Bottle from the dragon pack: Deep cherry color with a light brown head. Light nutty aroma. Slight roasted malt aroma with some light bitterness. bubbleflubber (2210) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - JUN 4, 2007
Deep walnut pour that had a huge brown overflowing head... quite active. The aromas are comforting, especially after warming a bit. I pick up caramel and figs, malt and syrup. The flavor is indeed "nutty", with an overlay of smoky roasts and a hint of a coffee finish. Nice malt interwoven in there, as well. Well-complementary hopped backpull is nice to round out an otherwise dull palate. Not bad overall.

Bottle from Wine Cellar. Smooth nutty, roasted malt aroma. Dark brown color with ruby glints in the thin spots. Tan head that went up and ringed quickly. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Rich smooth dark roasted malt, with a bit of coffee and chocolate. Think there was some dark fruit before the coff and choc kicked in. There is a moderate amount of hop bitter, but the type is submerged in the c&c. Barring the bitter level, this is very like a porter in character. Tastes really good. UPDATED: JAN 29, 2013 Bottle from a dragon pack from Whole Foods in Charlottesville. Pours dark brown with a big head, decent retention and good lacing. Sweet, fruity malt aroma. Big malt taste with hints of molasses. Hops are so subtle as to be almost unnoticeable. 5/4/7/4/12

Rerate 1/14/13, Draft at Beer Run. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized frothy light tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of nuts, caramel, earthy notes and honey. The taste is nuts, grain, caramel, toffee, herbal hops. Medium bodied. 7/4/6/3/12
12 oz bottle. Looks a dark brown when in the glass but the pour contains a lot of red color. Head nearly nonexistent. Mocha/malt nose with a hint of nut. Spicy, malty body. Nutty, wood flavor as well. Aftertaste is bitter. A decent offering but not the brewery’s best. hatchattack (255) - Virginia, USA - JUL 11, 2010
Draught. poured a dark brown color with a white head. aroma is very roasted nut, caramel. taste: little watered down tasting, sweet caramel, and roasted nut flavor, nice clean finish. ROGUE (2215) - Lewes, Delaware, USA - MAR 9, 2011
12oz bottle. Pours a deep chestnut brown with a nice half inch off white head that slowly settled. Aroma is dark, roasty malts, toasted nuts, caramel, and cocoa with a hint of piny hops. Flavor is well balanced between roasty, caramel malt, chocolate, and a pleasantly bitter bite of pine and floral hops through the finnish. Body is medium, with a slick, creamy texture and fizzy mouthfeel from the high carbonation.
