COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. George Oktoberfest is a classic German style with roasted malt and caramel flavors balanced by a mild hop bitterness. This beer was traditionally served at the start of fall in celebration of the harvests. Our Oktoberfest is pale copper-color lager. It pairs well with warm pretzels and lederhosen.

Appearance: Golden brown with a short white head that fades before I can put the bottle down. Decent transparency...just a bit hazy. Aroma: A hint of caramel and a distinct but faint spicy hop aroma. It smells clean. Taste: I get that distinctive crisp "lager flavor" with a hint of sweet bread flavor. In the end there is a tea-like earthy presence and similar tea-like bitterness. A bit of toasty flavor at the end as well. Mouthfeel: It is very light and refreshing. Low in both bitterness and carbonation, and low presence on the palate overall. Overall: It seems like this would be a good go-to Oktoberfest. It is very easy to drink and would be great for any kind of party or get together where you want to have a few beers and not fall over. I recommend picking it up and trying it out. If you like Oktoberfest style beers you would probably enjoy it. It’s not an over-the-top beer...it’s very mellow and laid back because it’s an Oktoberfest beer.

Reviewed from notes. I had this during a work trip in the Virginia area last Autumn. The appearance was a nice light gentle amber color with a decent transparency about it letting in enough light to see some carbonation rising at a decent pace. The head was about a finger’s worth and gently died to a slight little hill in the center of the beer. Some light lacing stuck around the sides of the glass. The smell had a good amount of caramel malts along with some pilsner malts invading my nose. The taste was basically sweet around the caramel and pilsner malts. On the palate, it sat fairly light and displayed a decent sessionable quality running about it. The carbonation was somewhat smooth and watery. Overall, for the most part, this was a pretty good brew that I ended up having several of and had it with some pretzels. It made for a nice memorable Autumn afternoon watching football.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2014 I really like this Oktoberfest. Nice clean amber look with a good head. The roasted malt and caramel smell great, like a fresh homebrew. Taste is toasted malt and light hops, balanced, some bitter, and not to heavy like other Oktoberfest beers. Available year around at the brewery and at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Pours a orange’ish gold with medium head. Not as malty on the nose as expected, a bit of hop on the nose. Not as malty on the palate either, a bit of hop bitterness, but not very clean finish.

Nice try at an Oktoberfest legendary seasonal but this one falls short of the standard flavor I would expect.
