Smell was fantastic. If only the smell could match the taste. Has a very strong aftertaste of metal. Too much malt, I feel for this type of ale. Overall, a very bad IPA. It was more like a malty bitter ale that was fermented in a brass barrel.

This is the beer equivalent of a person in the witness protection program. Of Kenny G. Of that person from school who didnt cause any trouble but also wasnt funny or interesting. Its so bland and unassertive that it actually becomes offensive.

The first sign is probably in its assertion on the bottle that IPA has "a medium maltiness." Right there you know youre in for trouble. But then, surprisingly, its not cloying or malty but rather immensely bland. Theres some faint malt, a babys breath of hops at the end, and then... nothing. Its fine. Its alright. It beats water. But it doesnt really taste like much, and its nowhere close to an IPA.

But, in its defense, it has a cool bottle. So, points for that.

50 cl. bottle @ home, gift from my family. Clear amber with a very thin white head. Grainy earthy aroma with some caramel and faint hops. Bitter taste. Almost a lager in aroma and mouthfeel or maybe a bitter. Even for an English IPA its really low on hops. Not bad though, nicely balanced.

500ml bbMAR18, Waitrose Hull. - A very distinctively earthy bitter, boldly earthy-bitter like oversteeped black tea down to the lingering finish. Earthy caramel nose, wet dirtfloor, animal sweat. A rare metallic, rusty iron layer in flavour permeates the dried out, woody caramel - a prickpoint of honey and cocoa powder before that deep herbal, green walnut peel bitterness sets in, not in a fruity&flowery way IPA has become popular. Harshish, an odd one out in this interesting regional brewerys output.

Bottle. Amber color, clear liquid, white head. Aroma of old school IPA, but slightly touched with tin of metallic tones and harsh bitterness. Still good though.

Bottle. Orangey Amber in colour. Very Hoppy; leafy floral and grassy hops. Fruity; some citrus fruit. Malty; grainy malts, caramel. Very bitter hoppy and dry throughout with a resinous rather harsh stewed hop taste. OK. Drinkable. (2011-06-04)
