A deep ruby red strong ale with an excellent balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A classic example of a ’winter warmer’; high in alcohol and rich in taste.

Skunky/tar aroma. Reddish black with a thin foam. Thin body with very odd tarish/street pavement flavors. Slight alcohol on the finish. Overall, absolutely disgusting, can’t even finish this crap.

let brændt smag, og en humle der næsten ikke er der. Der er dog en hvis humle i eftersmagen efter et stykke tid

Perfect for the holiday period. Nice touch, worth trying. Felt like I was in London.

Bottle at Jerusalem Tavern in London. Dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, toffee, spice. Flavor is sweet, spiced, cinnamon, nutmeg, only slight bitterness. Medium plus bodied, slick. Pretty good.

0.5 l bottle from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Appearance is dark ruby (black). Aroma is cognac with spices. Taste is like Irish dry stout with roasted malts, but this is supposed to have lots of hops. There is also some sweetness from the malts or alcohol. My flask didn’t seem to be well balanced at all - too much bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown colour with a thin beige head. Aroma of burnt toffee, dark fruit, red berries, slight brown sugar, a little cola, subtle liquorice and some spicy hops. Taste of burnt toffee, dark fruit, red berries, some cola, a little brown sugar, a hint of liquorice, leather and slight spicy hops. Medium bodied and a slight oily texture. A bittersweet, fruity, spicy bitterness in the finish. A decent old ale, lots of spicy fruit in this balanced quite well with burnt toffee and subtle hoppiness.

Bottle. Dark Brown in colour. Very roasted malts; burnt toffee & buttery caramel. Very chocolatey, some coffee. Fruit (berries) & spice. Nice malt/hop balance. Sweet with mild bitter edge. Slightly burnt taste. Roasted finish. Very drinkable. Nice winter ale! (2008)

From elcervecero. In Ikea’s pint glass. Playing Blackwell Legacy. Complex, with smokey and coffee notes and still very drinkable. Not what I expected in a winter beer but still great. Much better than the St Peter’s brews Ive bought in ECI: because the recipe or because the conservation?

Pours cola with a tidy tan lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and dried fruits; faintly woody. Tastes sweet, malty with dark fruits, coffee bitterness and a hint of spice. Full body with soft carbonation. Really nice balance overall between the sweet and bitter, very satisfying mouthfeel.

lesifflebiere (1928) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 23, 2016
