Huge frothy head that shrinks a bit but doesn’t go away. It forms laces on the top empty part of the glass and covers the surface efficently. The brew is light and a bit yeasty, sightly hazy and with a spritzer-vitality that feels more familar with cider. There are green apples in the flavor as well, but also lots of hops and herbal tones. The strong alcohol level is well disgusied, a little treacherous, because the bottle is big... BeerGolem (828) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 8, 2012
2011 vintage. Bottle 750 ml. Bought at grocery store. Served in Tulip. Pours clear amber with very thick frothy white head, long lasting. Aroma: fruits, malt, yeast. Taste is very fruity and malty. Lacks of balance as it is a little too much on sweetness. Medium to full bodied. Some warming alcohol, as we expect from a 10 % abv. Overall, a good strong beer, a bit heavy but still enjoyable. mikeyo1 (827) - Linköping, SWEDEN - JAN 23, 2015
Bottle @ home. 2011 vintage. Pours an almost clear amber liquid. The head is white and quite fizzy, with medium to large bubbles that diminishes the head within a minute. Balanced sweet and malty aroma with caramel, toffee, roasted almonds, apricots, red apples, subtle vinous raisins, licorice, honey and biscuits.
Highly carbonated, medium body. Taste is sweet with a drier finish. Flavor is moderately malty with toffee, honey, gooseberries, wood, leather, raisins and hints of herbs. Some unclothed cardboard lingering in the aftertaste. Although overall good, I had expected more, especially the flavor doesn’t live up to my expectations after smelling. The high carbonation level, i believe, masks some of the malt complexity in the flavor, it does get better if left resting for a while. cb (810) - Roeland Park, Kansas, USA - DEC 8, 2003
The appearance of this beer was the first clue of how classy and remarkable it would be. Lasting, foamy, billows of puffy head. Some peppery, mossy, slightly sour (earthy) aromatic notes. Tasted some dust and metallic flavors as well. Malty thickness (rye bread)comes out as it warmed, was hardly apparent when chilled. SamTheBarrel (804) - Vallentuna, SWEDEN - JUN 28, 2014
750ml 2014 years vintage rated 8% ABV, corked brown bottle with a label featuring a windmill, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is cloudy orange with a large frothy beige head, that reduced quickly leaving some lacing behind. Aroma of vinegar, apricots, pears, apples, lemon zest and barnyard. Flavours of lemon zest, wheat bread, pears, dried apricots, apples and a hint of vinegar. Taste is light-medium sweet, medium bitter and light sour. Palate is medium bodied, soft texture and lively carbonation. Overall a great beer, interesting flavorful style with observable notes of Belgian yeast. I would have liked it even more with a higher ABV like the older vintages, this beer has enough body to carry it.

Pours a clear amber color with a big, lingering white head. The aroma is funky and somewhat musty, with touches of hops, fruit, and malts. Medium body with high carbonation, the flavor malty and peppery with a touch of apples. Highly drinkable and very delicious, this is probably the best French beer I have had.
Bottle: Poured a straw color with a nice amount of head. The aroma was grass, mustiness, and spice. The flavor was smooth, slight apple, slight pear, grass, funk, and yeast. Overall, a really nice tasty beer I wouldn’t hesitate to order again. lachesis (757) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - JUN 19, 2005
Very nice warm golden-blond beer with fluffy snow white head. Great malty aroma with a refreshing thouch of grass, citrus, flowers and some fruits. Also some sweetness of caramel malts and buttercakes. The taste is malty, light fruity and has a refreshing carbonation with touches of fresh herbs some mint and lemongrass. It ends with a nice fruity bitterness of hops. beerslayer (753) - New Jersey, USA - FEB 19, 2005
This is a great Biere de Garde. Thanks Phil. Yeasty and malty flavors. Aroma is musty like its been aged forever. Finishes very clean, smooth, and chewy. Recommened.
