Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF Shindig, London. Pours light hazy, amber-brown with a light, white foam. Hugely sweet nose, raisins, tangy wood. Big sweet flavor, more raisins, also prunes, brown sugar, mild vinous wood notes. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary sweet finish, more brown sugar, prunes, raisins, faint wood. Exceptional. Wonderful depth and nuance. Psytron (2500) - Turku, FINLAND - SEP 13, 2012
Smell of malty rye bread and mämmi. Very dark colour with brown head. Very sweet and slightly bitter. Aroma of sugar, syrup, rye bread and malts. Aftertaste of sugar. Viscous, oily, very flat carbon. Beerhammaren (1815) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - MAR 5, 2012

7 Sweet caramelly aroma, a little walnut. Touch of sweet rye bread (’musta’ brand in estonia).
4 Dark, clear, mostly ruby, small head.
8 Super malty body. Not too sweet or stodgy, though. A little yeasty, but it is BC.
4 Full sweet palate, carbonation low. Finish has a bit of the rye graininess to it, and a touch of caramel too.
15+ Stunningly yummy barley wine. Goddamn!
It’s clear from the SOPP ratings that this was too young back then. 6 months later, and this beer’s got 3.8 from both raters. That’s the Stadin way - don’t drink until you’ve conditioned the bottle yourself, they don’t have the warehouse space to store beer themselves. 2 months for a weak beer, 6 months for a stronger one, seems to be about right.

My god - that is a stunning aroma. Like a fullers vintage of yore. Taste not quite as complex as that, massive on the rye malt, in a fairly savoury way, and with some alcohol vapours too. Finish immediately has a fair kick of marmite, but also sweetish grainy rye, some normal malted barley sweetness too. Still excellent, and clearly aged noticeably in the last 6 months. I would guess this peaked just before its BB - ooh look, someone gave it a 3.9 then! Dear Mr Stadin - more like this please!
2010 bottle from Tiong. Dark mahogany with no head at all. Reminds me of a delicious old port more than anything else - some caramelized brown sugar, rye, prune, raisin, dark currants and some vanilla and rum. Low carbonation, sweet, moderate body, alcohol still packs a bit of a punch - just wish it was a little richer; if you enjoy port you’ll like this if not then try it anyways.
