Draught (St. Urho’s, Helsinki, Sahti Days 2007).
Very dark murky appearance, darker than a traditional sahti. Richly roasted and hoppy aroma, some citrus. Taste is enormously full bodied, having some coffee and other traditional beer malt flavours. Pretty bitter too. Almost a sahti cross-bred with porter! Exciting variation on a style I very much like. (After rating this, I found out that indeed, the beer was brewed with a blend of ingredients more typically associated with non-Sahtis.) Hyvä Kari! sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 17, 2007
Pub, Helsinki) Opaque dark brown with no head. Strong, delicious, very smoky, perfumy aroma with licorice. Smoky-licoricey flavor with perfumy-flowery hoppiness. Medium-bodied, slicky palate with some ashy rougness to remind me of this being a sahti. A very pleasant, extremely balanced and drinkable brew with only some connections to typical sahtis. I sure hope this recipe lives on...
