Flasche vom Landbierparadies-Bierversand. - Goldgelb, klar, feinporiger weißer Schaum - ein klassisches Helles. In der Nase helles Malz und Heu. Antrunk mild malzig-würzig, strohiges Malz, nicht süß, leichte pikante Säure. Mild rezent.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2016 Bottle purchased at Landbierparadies, best by Feb. 11, 2014: Pristine golden. Fine-bubbled white cream adorns the glass with spotty lacework. Bright minerals line the aroma along with lemon candy, herbs, phyllo/croissant, lemon cake, and lightly toasted hay. Soft, tight carbonation. Firm hoppiness yields a wealth of robust herbal notes along with a seductive lemony elegance to match. Drying twinge of minerals fuses with an equally snappy interplay of baguette and bouncy hay pils malt, although the faintest note of fuzzy DMS blurs some of the vivider elements. Finessed toasty edges exude gracefully, but the malt is also quite soft, and much grassier than it is sharp and edgy. Bright lemon candy Spalter character exuberantly zings with a lip-smacking succulence, throughout. Forceful punch of saliva-inducing lager yeast firms up the core, but is quite clean and nonintrusive in its delicate pistachiolike nuttiness. Finishes richly haylike and honeyish, with a clutch of crisp minerals capped by a lemony succulence. A mostly clean example marred slightly by a minor note of DMS. Otherwise a well-hopped Franconian helles that’s quite sluggable.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Head is initially medium to large sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting.
Body is light to medium yellow.
Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs, lemon oil), with notes of lime zest and spearmint.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Ridiculously good, and a very clear cut above the average Helles, for many reasons. Even from the appearance I felt a little bolt of excitement, since I got this nice big, sticky, lacing, lasting head. Bright, lovely, flowery hops (even faintly citrus-oily/almost-resinous...very fresh smelling without the yucky raw pine sap odor that Americans seem to love) in the nose. Super clean and perfectly balanced in the mouth, it’s virtually impossible to stop drinking. No husks, no soap, no diacetyl, no flaws at all. Velvety, substantial mouthfeel on top of all that? That’s when you know you’re in 4+ territory. And hey, it even has Walt on the label, what more could you want???
