COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A special dark beer, whose infernal black colour, fantastically complicated bouquet, and hint of oriental spice will attract not just patrons of dark beer. 13°

This is one of the best dunkels from bottle I have ever had. Almost pitch black in colour with a good off white head. Aroma is malty with some coffee. Flavor is a blend of the sweetness of the caramel malts, the coffee notes and some spices.

This was almost suprisingly good, it had an intensive, maybe toasted flavor, with some not-so-subtle hints of spice. I will probably try it again.

Bottle. OK head. Sweet, but well-balanced. Hint of liquorice................

This beer is quite unusual and nothing like most other Czech dark beers. It's colour is red/black, but instead of the expected caramel comes a strong liquorice and aniseed aroma and flavour and a dry malty finish. Some toffee is present, but the beer is mainly roasted and dry. A contender for export perhaps? (Bottle at Cervent Drak, Sumperk)

Bottled(330ml). -dark brown coloured with nice head, roasty and malty aroma with hints of brown sugar

(330 ml bottle, airborne from Praha/Prague). Reddish brown colour, deep ruby when held to the light. Very good and thick tan head, good lacing. Roasty and malty aroma, hints of coffee, caramel and toast. Roasted malty flavour, hints of brown sugar but not really sweet, dominant coffee-like bitterness. Difficult to tell how much of the bitterness is from the roasted malts and how much is from the hops. Extracts and artificial colouring, hmm?? This is a tasty brew anyway.

bierkoning (13387) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - SEP 8, 2003
Deep dark ruby brown color. Malty peacharoam and flavor. A slight toasted flavor is overpowered by the fruity sweetness. Onlt medium bodied, I expected more. Still a lovely, tasty beer.

Dark brown; Aroma: nutty, toasty, even a little roasty. Palate: toffee, chewy malts, earth, brown sugar. Finish: long, sweet, toasty malt. Starobrno is emerging as my favourite Czech brewery.
