COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark lager with an exceptionally fine taste which is talked about with recognition and admiration. Staropramen Dark is exceptional for its calming, full-bodied, sweetish caramel taste with gentle, hopsy bitterness. It is a taste you will never forget.

Slightly complex aroma structure. Mild fruity beer, but without to much of an aftertaste

Lager nose with a little sour vegetable aroma, deep brown, fluffy biege head. Light toasted malt with some caramel and oak flavors. Dry malty end with a hint of tobacco. Thin body, OK balance, but off taste overall. Not bad, not good.

Bottle 500ml, different than the one in the picture, the new one, green.
Head small, off-white with the light brown tan, colour of the body is exellent, very dark amber, carbonation is visually mild, aroma of malt (a bit toasted) and caramel, flavour: nice, hoppy, bitter, flowery accent, smoke, bitterness, full bodied, the previously tasted Krusovice Shwarzbier tasted better for me, but still this one being a dunkel is decent among many. Less imposing and a bit less essential in its body while tasted but perfectly representing its style.

Dark brown color, faint head; aroma of slight roastness, sweet malt, caramel and nuts; thin to medium body, mouthfeel a bit watery; flavor is malty sweet of caramel with some metallic bitterness in slightly dry finish. Okay, but metallic feeling bothers both in aroma and in taste. I don´t know if it´s due to use of hop extract or what.

Pours a deep mahogany body with a short-lived white top. Looks nice. Smell is dark malts. Palate is a bit fizzy, and the taste is rather two-dimensional: sweet dark malts with some hints of toffee. Or coffee. Whatever it is, it’s vague. Staropramen Dark feels a bit like the soft drink variety of malt extract, but since I actually like that stuff it’s kind of a compliment. :-) However, the low drinkability (somehow the sweetness makes it too sticky for a quick quaff) and relatively simple taste of Staropramen’s dunkel version puts it among the rather mediocre varieties of its kind.

Bottled. Pours dark amber in color with a beige head. Malty sweetness, some nuttyness, light hints of coffee and brown sugar in aroma. Perhaps some fudge as well. Roasted malty taste, with a hint of dough. Dry.
