Staropramen Garnet is a unique lager that fully honours the tradition of our brewery. In the brewing process, which is based on the original recipe from 1884, we mix pale and specialty malts in the so-called "sprinkling" process. This gives the lager its typical garnet colour, gently bitter taste and full-bodied hoppy aroma.

Clear amber color. Medium carbonation. Mineral aroma (which was not quite pleasant), with some herbal hops, baked bread. Nice and balanced. Nice maltiness, but dry, just a bit of nuttiness,a touch of caramel, bread crust. Long hoppy finish. Decent, but I could have it a bit richer. That said, I haven’t tried too much of the style, so I’m not sure how this compares to others. Medium - body.

The foam is very stable and it seems endless. The smell of cheap beer. After 10 minutes the smell disappears and is normal. Color is slightly ruby, as a tea. The taste is nothing special, a little hop and bread.

Tap at the Tlusta Koala pub, Prague. Poured a crystal clear medium amber colour with a thin white head. The aroma is lager malt, light hop. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a grainy earthy malt, light fruit, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of Lenka.

Pours amber from bottle with minimal creamy head. Aroma of smelly socks. Taste slightly sweet with no bitterness. Palate oily. Fizzy unpleasant carbonation. Really poor lager. Won’t be getting this one again.

Bottle (from billa, timisoara). Pours golden-ambermber. Aroma is sweet, caramel, malt. Flavor is rather mild, sweet and bitter, caramel, malt, metallic notes. Feels watery. Finish has some mild hops. Carbonation is rather high. Overall: drinkable, but rather pointless.

Bottle from the Co-op near Chateau Dobris at Mirek’s wedding. Finally ticked off the polotmavy...almost two decades after my first visit to this country! Nice amber colour, thin foam, looks promising. A bit clunky and metallic I thought this, some sweetish toffee malts and a discirdant hop bitterness. I’d normally say Staropramen products are far better than they get credit for on here, but this didn’t quite hit it.
