Cola brown pour with aroma of milk chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. Sweet milk chocolate flavor with hints of dark fruit, caramel, and roasted malt. Very tasty.
Sampled in the Box of Chocolates Double Bass variety back. I like the flavor and balance of the straight up double chocolate stout, though the mocha addition was pretty nice. This one has a good balance, even though it may lean a bit towards the sweet side. This lets the chocolate malts stand out with some mild hops to finish. Decent cold weather beer. black with a nice tan head; nice chocolaty, roasted malt aroma; good roasted malt flavor with lots of chocolate notes; a good deal of bitterness jgb9348 (6648) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 17, 2018
Deep rich brown coloured body with a thinnish, tan or perhaps light brown coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee, earth, prunes, raisins with a good deal of peat and a bit of mushrooms as well. Medium-bodied; Super assertive chocolate and light coffee flavours coupled with the roasted malt and a good deal of grain and raisins. Aftertaste shows some prunes and plums right off the bat with a good bit of milk chocolate and a deeper earthier malt, coupled with some coffee and light bitterness toward the tail end. Overall, a rich and very chocolatey beer with a ton of sweetness and a relatively well-balanced beer, but showing perhaps too much chocolate without supporting body, also with some roast and lactose but almost shows more as a porter instead of a sweet stout. Nice to try and decent, but not as good as I was expecting or hoping for. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Beer Run in Charlottesville, Virginia on 26-February-2017 for US$2,75 sampled at home in Washington on 16-January-2018. hopdog (13315) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 14, 2018

A soft & drinkable stout! Average pour, decent aroma, & light body. It has a nice sweet flavor & maybe just a little too soft mouthfeel but overall it's a really nice brew.

on tap at Dog & Bull in Croydon - dark and creamy. Chocolatey aroma. Super chocolatey flavor. Very good. Tastes like dessert. HourGlass13 (1110) - North Carolina, USA - DEC 9, 2017
Dark brown colored pour, nearly black, with a brown head. Aroma is medicinal, like some old medicine cabinet from the 1960's. Taste is the same.. like a trip to the dentist office in the 1960's. Super abrasive and down right nasty. This is a new low even for Star Hill, who has never brewed anything worth putting in a can. More like a double root canal. nearbeer (5713) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - APR 28, 2017
12 oz. bottled 12/21/2016. Ebony brew has an enduring film of grainy bubbles. Aroma is cocoa, fig, molasses and a hint of clove. Tastes of semi-sweet chocolate, bitterish dry cocoa, fig and a bit of sour cream. Finish has some spearmint and sweet/sour cherries. Maybe a bit of cured tobacco as well. There’s quite a bit of complexity not typically seen in a Sweet Stout, but something about the combination of flavors sits a little obtusely on my tastebuds and won’t allow me to kick it up into greatness rating territory. Medium bodied with a nice balance and mostly smooth medium fizz. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - FEB 14, 2017
