Starr Saison is a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry, crisp, and complex with plenty of fruitiness, hints of earth, and refreshing hop aroma and bitterness.

shadey (2174) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 9, 2014
Growler. Pours a bright gold with a very thin white head of cream. Aroma is very grainy and grassy. Lightly sweet, but no real funk to speak of. Alcohol is surprisingly apparent for the level (6%) and takes away from the experience substantially. Other flavors are grassy hops and not much else. Also tastes a bit oxidized, which is very strange for a growler that was poured yesterday.

solidfunk (9797) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - APR 15, 2014
Pours golden with ok head and lacing and some funk in the finish. Comes together well with some hay and some funky wildness. Average carbonation. Finishes lightly sour. On tap at DC Beer Festival.

Draft. Poured a clear golden color, small white head. Aroma is light caramel malt, some straw and spice notes. Flavor has light pepper, citrus.

sonnycheeba (6695) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 5, 2014
Bottle shared by friends. Pours clear gold with creamy white head. Aroma is heavy farmhouse yeast esters, cookie malts, floral notes, light fruit esters, and some herbs. Flavor is floral notes, yeasty esters, light citrus notes, light bready malts, and faint grassy hops; dry finish. Medium body and light carbonation.

snoworsummer (6404) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 5, 2014
From a bottle. Pours clear gold with a bubbly off white head. Tastes dry, like herbs, spices, some lemon, grassy. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like creamy lemon, herbs, lavender.

This is an okay saison, very banana-y with a ton of spice. Golden with a thick head. Has an unfortunate aftertaste however.

BierMeHoos (650) - Maryland, USA - MAR 27, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear gold body. The flavor is a little too malt driven for me, too heavy. Minimal flavor, just a little too simple.

2.9
kramer (6991) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 3, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear gold body under a tight bubbled foamy beige head. The nose is lightly spicy with some grassy notes, fairly heavy pale malt, light earthiness, and a little yeastiness. The flavor is a little too malt driven for me, too heavy, I like my Saisons to be soft, light, and airy. Not quite as dry as I’d like either. Minimal flavor influence from the yeast, very heavily filtered. Finishes with some sweetness and a light herbal spiciness. Just a little too simple and bland. Actually reminds me a bit of a weak Belgian Triple. Heavier bodied with some fine fizzy carbonation. OK drinker I guess, but not a wonderful Saison.

Bierkrug (2129) - - FEB 11, 2014

hershiser2 (3892) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 10, 2014
Bottle. Pours golden with lotsa bubbles rising from the bottom; has an inch of white head. Smells of wheat and grass. Tastes of sweet grasses, wheat, oats, and a hint of skunk.
