Sampled from bottle @ THT November. Opaque pitch black color, medium to full sized creamy dark brown head. Aroma is malts, lightly roasted malts, lots of bourbon, some coffee. Taste malts, roasted malts, lots of bourbon, bitter. Oh my fucking god this is awesome! adnielsen (10601) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - SEP 14, 2012
UPDATED: DEC 5, 2014 Bottle @ Brad’s house Minneapolis, courtesy of bnielsen13. Thanks Brad! Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a small, light brown head and big alcohol legs. Really rich toffee and thick caramel, dark chocolate, somewhat boozy, vanilla, dessert-like aroma. Super fucking smooth, rich dark chocolate, toffee, turtle (caramel, pecan, chocolate), mild yet tasty whiskey, a bit of vanilla flavor with a super smooth finish and only a touch of booze. Wow, I’m really impressed with this. It’s super smooth for the abv (honestly, almost no hint of the booze) and just full of dessert notes. Fuck yeah. mnmike (1086) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 28, 2014
Update: bourbon version is every bit as a good. Fuck yeah.
phenomenal beer. the last of the steel toe beers that I haven’t had. Reminiscent of bourbon county stout, but with it’s own identity. A little more hops, and stronger bourbon. great aftertaste badgerben (5104) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - APR 23, 2016
Taproom. Black color with a medium head. Strong bourbon aroma. Big vanilla, coffee, oak, and bourbon flavors. Some cocoa, molasses, rum, and brown sugar as well. Thick body. Seems about 2/3 barleywine 1/3 imperial stout. Freakin great. ryanfolty (2538) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - JUN 29, 2012
June 29, 2012 bottle from the brewery. Dark brown pour with some head that faded quickly. Aroma was whiskey, spice and maybe some smoke. Taste was whiskey, roasted malt, dark fruit and some spice. Medium to full bodied and very smooth.

Bottle at THT with massive thanks to kermis. Very stouty bourbon barleywine. Nice and thick and sweet. Caramels, on top of chocolate and vanilla, laced with marzipan. Very sweet with silky smooth mouthfeel. Backlog from 2015/11/27. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 6, 2012
Very dark brown pour, brown head. Sweet rye whiskey, charred oak, tahitian vanilla, cocoa powder, roasted malt. This drinks a lot like a big BA stout. Roast, chocolate, whiskey, toasted oak, vanilla. Damn fine beer. DAMN FINE! Thanks to dalzale for hooking me up with this. mag_burk90 (14) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 28, 2014
On tap at the brewery. A - strong bourbon dominates, delicious. Appearance - thick black, dark foam. T - bourbon sweetness, slight roast and hop notes. Mouthfeel - velvet, thick, hides most of the alcohol burn. Really excellent offering from STB - balances flavors of black IPA and barleywine with added complexity of bourbon.

Bottle @ THT November. Pours a pitch black beer without any head on top. Aroma has loads of coffee, bourbon vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Flavor is incredibly sweet, loads of chocolate and bourbon going on. Immense body, very strong flavors and silky mouthfeel complete this beer. An underdog for sure! biggsbowler (624) - Port St. Lucie, Florida, USA - DEC 2, 2014
Bottle - Pours dark black. Bourbon, oak, vanilla, and malty nose. Malty and sweet taste with hints of dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark fruits, and leather. Really good!
