On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a hint of an amber hue and a chocolate brown that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has some chalky dark grains with a bit of chocolate and a pine bite. Flavor has much more pine and grass with a backbone of dark grains and a bit of bitter chocolate. Tap at Steel Toe. Dark murky amber pour with a frothy light beige head. Big roasted malts and citrus hops on the aroma. Full palate. Bold hops in the taste but still a pretty easy drinker. Great full-flavored brew. arminjewell (9585) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - DEC 22, 2013
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks to Caleb! Dark black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of nice pine, spice, hints of vanilla, nice dark fruit into roast, coffee notes, slight touch of spruce or mint as well. Taste is a mix of spruce, pine, grass into some spice, earth into chocolate, roast, some coffee, finishing fairly bitter, dry. douglas88 (9064) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 30, 2013
Bomber thanks to Caleb. Pours a pure black color with a large beige head. A sweet nose of pine and light chocolates. The flavor leans toward the darker porter side with roast, dry chocolate and ash, caramel, light bitter pine and citrus. Very flavorful. drowland (8629) - Georgia, USA - MAY 4, 2013
5/4/13. 22oz bomber thanks to CLe to the var, bitches! Darl brown pour with a nice khaki tan head. Nice hop aroma, pine as aforementioned, but also with a distinct fruitiness touching on Fruity Pebbles. Big hop flavor, a good bitterness as well, with big doses of pine, fruitiness, citrus, and a touch of roasted malts. Tasty!

Tap. Pours deep black, medium creamy beige head, great lacing. Aroma is Grapefruit, pine, roast. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, a bit piney astringent. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Just misses the sweet spot of a black IPA. jackl (8029) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 8, 2014
Bottle from Haskell’s, Minnetonka. Black pour with some chestnut highlights. Light khaki head. Aroma of pine cone, dirt, a bit of chocolate. Dirt-rubbed conifer. Hint of marmalade. Taste is quite bitter, dry. Pine cone, resin. Abrasive PNW bitterness. Dry cocoa and ash. Roasted malts. Very much a dry bitter bomb. Medium body, active carbonation. Pleasing, but difficult. Extra in trade, Thanks Ebin. Pours pitch black with large off white, tiny bubble head. The top faded after a minute or two to a ring. Aroma of pine, chocolatey malt, faint spruce and resinous hops. Flavor is strong pine, light roast malt and some grapefruit/light grape hop notes. Mouthfeel is perfect on this with just the right amount of bitterness. Draft at the brewery. This has an aroma of oil, almost. Drinks like many of the others among this new breed of "black IPAs," a trend I don’t particularly love. Yet another nice thick porter base, thrown off balance with an assertive pine oil finish. That sounds worse than it is ... this is still good. Sampled from a bottle. Black color. Aroma has moderately roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is a blend of hops, bitter, dry malt and some more coffee here also good for a black ipa.
