COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
LUNKER is an English barleywine which was aged in Templeton Rye Whisky barrels which was the favorite spirit of mobster Al Capone. The aroma and flavor have a subtle rye whisky character followed by caramel, toffee, vanilla and toasted bread notes. The rich full bodied character and sweetness of Lunker is tempered by the moderate bitterness of this glorious brew. Drink now or keep it in the cellar for several years Capone did both, except his cellar was Alcatraz. Its hinted with his flavor of choice, making Lunker a choice brew and just a little bit GANGSTER!

Just not my style of beer, but still glad to snag a couple of bottles of this. Pours a dark brown with mid-sized, thick head that very slowly dissipates. Aromas include sweet malt, ripe fruit, booze/liquor, some woodsy notes, and caramel and coffee. Flavor is very sweet with quite a noticeable liquor flavor/element to it. At first, I was tasting some licorice, then caramel, vanilla, rye whiskey, and toffee. Very smooth with a long-lasting finish. Think Ill let my second bottle age a bit more...

Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. 2012 vintage. From SourNotes, thanks! Dark amber with no head and leaving no lacing. Flavors of bourbon, alcohol, caramel/toffee, chocolate, oak, rotten fruits and a bit of cardboard. Taste is quite sweet and also rather boozy. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Liquorous mouthfeel. Disappointing that this nearly 15% abv monster cant hold 3-4 years before starting to show signs of oxidation. Its malty but Ive had less strong beers with much more malt depth. Bourbon is still strong. Unbalanced a bit. Subpar.

Sampled at the Societe Party 2016. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of caramel, toffee, vanilla and whiskey. The taste was similar to the aroma with more vanilla, whiskey and some bread. Tasty.

Sampled at a fest and one of the highlights for me. A lot of goodness going on here. Aged fruit with smooth whiskey. Sweetness and oak. Vanilla. Just a lot of nice flavors all working together.

25.4 oz bottle. Murky brown with brief froth. Nose is caramel, raisin, soft whiskey and wood. Medium body with a soft buzz. Taste is whiskey butterscotch, apple, grass and bittersweet chocolate. The rye and roast overwhelm the delicate sweetness.
